New info on PICS and SS#'s 1/18/08

I just figured I would let everyone know that as of today 1/18/08. Pics no longer requires your SS# for background checks!!!!

We noticed an odity today when calling PICS. The comp. system no longer reads back your SS# for verification!! All it says now is SS# 000-00-000 so after having every call read the same way. We called PICS and they verified that as of today they no longer need to verify your SS# on the forms. There could however be an exception if it is transfered to an operator for further verification, I can't verify that because we didn't have any go to an operator today.

I amnot sure where we stand on the Record of sale forms for handguns. They still do not say optional and we have not yet received notification of new forms coming out yet. They did however say that ALL FFL holders will receive a letter explaining the new rules shortly.

I had 5 or 6 sales require operator assistance today and not one asked for SSN.

Funny every time I called PICS today they did read back the last 4 numbers of the SS# 000-00-1234.
Also about 80% of calls went to an operator.
I am fine with the last 4 numbers on the ROC and had no issues with or without the SS# on the ROS in the past 6 months or so.
