AR-15 build - stripped upper receiver question
Saw this on MidwayUSA and wondered if this is a good price? Any thoughts? I am very interested in building this in pieces versus buying a complete upper.

Good deal. Usual price for a decent stripped upper is around $100.

Re: AR-15 build - stripped upper receiver question
Have you built a upper before?....if not Bushmaster has a great video shows all the steps. Lots of goodies to buy besides the receiver parts! Check out what you need before you start buying peices! It's not as simple as putting a lower together on the kitchen table in a few minutes time. Have fun and be careful with that gas tube!

Re: AR-15 build - stripped upper receiver question
No, I haven't built one before, but I do know a few people around the P'burg area who would be willing to help out for wings and beer.
I understand that there are many more pieces and I am really interested in doing all or most of the build myself, since I really enjoy that kind of stuff. Buying all the pieces separately also helps spread the cost out over time, rather than a big chunk at once for a complete upper. (Also helps get it past the finance committee ) I rebuilt the engine in my truck a few years ago. Only had the machining outsourced.

Re: AR-15 build - stripped upper receiver question
I'll help build just for beer............no wings needed.
The DPMS uppers are fine, but one thing you want to think about is to try to get the upper and lower to match in terms of color. The parkerizing on the DPMS upper may differ than your lower....depending on the lower.
Usually, you can find that info over at Arfcom or by sending an e mail to DPMS.

Re: AR-15 build - stripped upper receiver question
It's not that hard.....just get the right tools and be patient. Not too many peices since you are thinking of a flat top (good choice). The rear sight is a pain sometimes (little peices suasage fingers) for me. I hope your friends have the appropriate barrel wrench........or the beer and wings will be the least expense (depending how much they can drink!)
