I have the p226 in 9mm and the p229 in 40. Out of all the guns I own, they are the ones I always shoot. I don't have any experience with the 357sig. The equinox is my favorite, I like it even better than my Elites.

Both are nice pistols. Yo have to pick the action that best suits your needs. As far as 357Sig it is nice to have but expencive to practice with vs/.40 or 9mm. Once you pick the caliber & action you want only other question is how much you want to spend on bling. (I have a P229 equinox myself with both the 40 and 357sig barrels) great unit in my opinion.

I have a sig 229 Elite in .40, I am very happy with it. I am want to get the .357 barrel. I would use the argument that .40 is cheaper to practice with, but .. the only reason I don't have the .357 is I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I fired the poop out of 226 9mm in the NAVY. My wife carries one on duty (yeah she's a LEO LOL!). Fired a friends 357sig...not a big deal....the price of ammo ruined it for me...funny looking round too! Like a little Mickey's Big Mouth bottle!

But if you collect sigs you gotta get one.....just not my cup of tea.....the 220 45acp however!!!!!!sigs are awesome!

    I've got 2 P226's - both 9mm and a P229 DAK .40S&W with a .357sig barrel. I also have a P239 .40S&W with a .357sig barrel.
As far as Sigs go, I like them the best of all my guns.

I've shot both my P229 and P239 with the .357sig barrels about 200 rounds.
Personally, I like the .40S&W round better. It's cheaper to shoot, and I like the bigger bullet better for SD.

The price of .357sig ammo is just plain stupid, and I don't like the big muzzle flash that the .357sig makes (I'll admit that its cool, but not for quick follow up shots). I also don't like the snappy recoil of the .357sig.

FWIW - these are just my opinions and YMMV.
I know that there are alot of people that swear by the .357sig round, but I just don't think that it's worth the extra cost of ammo and the recoil.

I have to agree with the previous posters. Why would you want it in 357sig? That was always an expensive round and with the way ammo prices are running away I would recommend against it if you want to do any serious shooting with it. I personally have the P226R in 9mm and love it. Modern +p ammo is fairly powerful stuff if you were worried about the power factor. If you don't want 9mm then the 40sw is plenty powerfull and the ammo price is still much better than 357sig.

I agree that the price of the 357 Sig sucks. But it is all I carry in a Sig 226 and love it. I have no issues with recoil or follow up shots. But I shoot a lot. I also find it to be the most accurate round that I have ever fired out of an auto loading pistol
I also carry it in a Glock 31 and a Glock 32. The Glock 32 took getting use to though.

As far as 40 goes I use it in competition IPSC. If I ever get back to it

But this is only my opinion .
