Default Average range for bagging deer in PA?

    Hi everyone. A quick question:

Generally, on average, when hunting in PA, specifically eastern PA, from about how many yards away do you typically, successfully, take down deer with a rifle or shotgun?

I ask because I'd like to know about how far out I should be proficient shooting before going out on a hunt.

Please share your experiences and insights everyone.

    Thank you.

kind of depends on what you are hunting over... in the woods I'd say shots over 100 yards are pretty rare.

Standard sighting in is 1 inch high at 100 yards. this will typically give you about 2 inch low impact at 200 yards. which means anything between 20 yards and 200 yards, just put the crosshairs on the target and squeeze and it will drop.

if you are on some of the fields with 300+ shots just go out and practice for that

that said I've only shot one deer over 50 yards with my rifle, and it was about 75 out. Msot of my deer have been under 30 yards (bow) :P
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

I am in concurance with both of these astute gentlemen. 20 yrds to 200yrds is accurate. I haven't shot one over 40yds in 10 years.

I agree with the rest. I've taken 22 deer in PA and none over 100 yds. Most under 50 yds. My rifle is zerod 1" high at 100 yds. I try to shoot them center of mass (up and down) and 1" behind the front shoulder. If they are running and under 100 yds, put it on their shoulder and let'er rip. Good Luck

None of the deer I have shot were over 100yds. I zero my rifle at 100yds, and my daughter's at 50yds. The deer she shot was just about 100yds away and she took it with one shot to the neck with my .308.

from 15 to 100 yards. hunting in woods mostly. it's hard to get a shot off any further than that unless your hunting over a field......

10-75 yards here, never had to take a shot further. Most of the areas I hunt won't allow it anyway.
