Default Cabela's no longer gives military discounts

    FYI for anyone eligible.

Stopped by Cabela's this evening to purchase some reloading supplies. When checking out, the cashier said they stopped giving military discounts as of Labor Day.

It is their option whether to extend or retract this courtesy. I am going to miss it. Bummer.

I am shocked by that actually. With everything being overpriced as it is, offering a little discount to service members was a good way to level the price point. Generally I don't support corporations or companies that do not offer military/LE discounts. I see no reason they shouldn't do it.

A military discount is a perk for me to shop at a place, not a requirement for me to. The only time I factor in the discount as to where I make a purchase is when it's something like at Lowes or Home Depot, if one offers the discount and the other doesn't I'll hit the place with it.

But both are offering it now, so it doesn't matter.

They should just pass a law saying military members don't have to pay sales tax. As far as I'm concerned they've paid their debt to society.

While I would benefit from such a thing, I disagree with the premise. I do not believe that we should create a class of people who get treated better than another based upon what someone is willing/able or unwilling/unable to do.

I agree that it is a perk also, not an expection or a requirement.

Since the perk is no longer available, I can't justify the significant travel distance for me to pay a price higher than my local shop's regular prices.

I just called and they said they will only be offering the discounts on "special events" and those events will be advertised.

I don't think that's quite the way you wanted to say that

Well apparently we all have a "debt" to society by needing to pay ridiculously high taxes on EVERYTHING, including money we make, money we spend, etc. I'm just saying that military members should be relieved of some of that "debt" in exchange for the service they provide(d).

Maybe it came out wrong, lol.

Agreed...I won't be putting on the miles. Not the end of the world really, I just find it surprising after offering the discount as long as I can remember it is now over. I do not view it as a requirement, as most places don't offer it. For a place to remove said discount, on the other hand, is more a reason to chance other options before considering the place that at one time had this perk and now does not.
