What ammo are you guys carrying around these days??

Personally, I carry PDX1 in 380acp for my Bersa Thunder plus. It performed well in ballistic tests I found online so i decided to go with it. It shot well at the range so I can't complain.

I've been carrying Hornady Critical Defense in my .38 revolver. But I'm going to switch to Buffalo Bore soon. (Not the +P). Reason is, recently, I was shooting some of the CD stuff, and I had 3 FTFs! That's ridiculous out of a revolver, for a load that I bought specifically as carry ammo! I will never buy CD again!

You had three failures to feed in a revolver?

Or failure to fire? We have got to get our acronyms straight...

Either way, even if you had bad ammo, it was a fluke. I've personally shot hundreds (maybe more) rounds of Hornady Critical Defense in 9mm, and have never had a single problem. Shit works like gang buster, especially in guns that don't like to feed a traditional hollow point profile.

I'd suggest you try again. Or try something else. There are plenty of great loads out there for the .38 special. Buffalo Bore makes good stuff.


I'd suggest giving Hornady a call, or sending them an email. They stand behind their stuff.

I have a couple mags of 230 gr Win Ranger T's for the .45 & a couple of 180 gr Ranger's for the .40 left. Mostly I just carry Hornady XTP reloads for 9, 40 & 45.

Glock19 I carry Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P hollow point. I shoot great groups with this round.

Having had the oppertunity to take part in ballistics tests ( real ) with various rounds I carry HST's .

I carry a 9mm so its the 124 or 147 grain +p's I prefer but I would rather have any HST over most anything out there.

I would as a second choice carry Corbon DPX , but they are just too pricey to get enough of, and thats the only reason they arent my first choice.

After that Winchester Ranger T-series ammo or Gold Dots. The GD "short barrel" ammo is esp a good choice for small guns. If I carried a G26 I would go with the GD short barrel 124 +p .

I used to carry the RA45T in my 1911 when I carried one, the feed profile on the T-series is much more forgiving than the HST's.
