    Default Mosin 91/30 Help

Okay so at the Pittsburgh Mills gun show I couldn't restrain myself and bought a Mosin Nagant, now I took it home cleaned out the cosmoline, took a 20 gauge bore brush to the chamber with a drill.

The problem is that when I go to chamber a round the bolt will not close on some rounds. I know it's not head space because even the hardest to chamber rounds let the bolt open and close easily after the extractor grabs on to them. I've taken the extractor out twice and tried to polish it with a fine sharpening stone. Please help , and thanks in advance. I've tried 2 days to fix this and decide that I need the insightful help of PAFOA.

So the extractor isnt grabbing on the rim properly?

Do you have it assembled correctly? Is this under a full magazine, or are you feeding them in by hand? Ive had trouble feeding 1 by 1 in the same way.

The extractor is not latching onto the rim correctly, there is no difference loading wise, full mag or one by one. The bolt will go all the way forward and stop/get stuck around 45°-60°. As stated after the bolt goes down (hence the extractor latches onto the rim) I can open and close it like butter.

I already ran a bore brush in the chamber, and it isn't sticky bolt because I haven't fired it yet. It's just very hard when initially closing the bolt to get the extractor to snap over the round.

yeah, you could have cosmo under the extractor. I use a bath of brake cleaner followed by steam cleaning (get er' hot) to get it all out without having to take out puns and springs.

I've taken the extractor out 3 times and as of now I'm calling this fixed. There was an indent in the extractor from a rim embedding into it, don't know how it happened, but I polished it with a fine sharpening stone until the dent was gone now it's much smoother, thanks for everyone's help

What he said. You can pre-soak the bolt in a metal coffee can of turpentine (outside, not around smokers).
