My friend is in Trouble in NJ
MY friend and Boss is in potentially serious trouble.
In Pa,He has no priors and just got His PTC firearms.
Went to New Jersey with his girl and went to a Casino.
Baby Glock, holstered, loaded and in his glove box.
Came out to realize that his Truck had been broken into and many items of value, including the Glock had been stolen.
Called Police reported all items stolen.
Police reviewed the footage from the parking lots security cam and got a decent look at the thief.
He was promptly taken in with no rights read and is now being charged with possession of a firearm.
The thief was caught a few days later and He too is charged with the Gun.
The Gun is no where to be found.
My boss is terrified.
He has found legal counsel in Jersey to represent Him,but what are his chances here?
Please keep in mind that at NO time was a Gun seen by anyone in Jersey.
This is strictly based off what He admitted was missing from His truck.
Please Help.....this Guy is scared to death.
Thanks in advance-Dustin

FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS GO TO JOISEY!!!
Mistake #1...
Your friend is ROYALLY screwed, unless he has political friends in HIGH places in that state.

Re: My friend is in Trouble in NJ
Best advice I can give you: start looking for another job, your boss is gonna be busy for the next few years.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: My friend is in Trouble in NJ
He may be able to stay out of prison, maybe, but it'll cost him a bunch'o'bucks.
Of course, if his newly-hired attorney is halfway decent, he can start throwing all sorts of U.S. Constitutional filings at the New Jersey authorities, 2nd Amendment, 14th Amendment, etc., etc.
PTC firearms? Never heard of that brand.

Re: My friend is in Trouble in NJ
Let me see if I have this right...your boss gets his ltcf in PA and buys a gun in PA then decides to carry it into Jersey were it is promptly stolen? Just want to make sure I have those details straight. He then reports the gun that is illegal for him to have in jersey as stolen? He is then promptly arrested by jerseys finest and now he's worried .
If all that is true your friend is royally screwed! He should have known the law before traveling. The best he can hope for is that his lawyer can minamize the damages. Jersey usually deals with illegal gun cases very harshly as your friend is about to find out.
I suspect you won't find too much sympothy on this board, . While most here despise jersey and their gun laws we do advise people to know and follow the law.
Good luck to your friend he will need it.

Re: My friend is in Trouble in NJ
I hate to pile on, but your boss is going to jail. I don't care how good his lawyer is, unless there is indeed a Miranda issue or some other god send along those lines that may ultimately cut him lose.
Considering Brian Atkins was sentenced to 7years for transporting unloaded handguns properly stored that he lawfully possessed in NJ. (just not lawfully transported because you can only transport an unloaded handgun in NJ within a very narrow exceptions), I am quite fearful that your boss is going to be put away for an extended period of time. He will never be able to own a firearm again. If he had hollow points he’s going to get screwed even harder. Based on Atkin’s case my guess would be 7 at minimum and if he is very, very lucky.
I do wish him the best of luck.Last edited by God's Country; September 3rd, 2011 at 09:52 AM.

^^this
Lawyer up, while advice in hindsight is wonderful, unfortunately NOT knowing the applicable laws in advance is gonna cost him big. I dont see any way out of this other than sending him lock-picks and a file while he is serving his time.
IANAL - but anyone here will tell you there are several states to avoid like the plague with firearms, NJ is somewhere at the top of that list. If anything, one of the local attorney/lawyers that frequent PAFOA might be able to steer your to a colleague of theirs that practices in NJ. A search of this site will yield several posts of their contact information.
In the interim, Id suggest getting your resume in order, as well as your LinkedIN profile... it sounds like your going to need it.
