I bought one a few years ago. Finally started using it as med bag. Works great. Lots of pockets and seems to be well constructed.

The old one was OK, but my finger got tired after a while.

Sorry, Cell Phone picture and the Other picture was too large for it to be attached.

For the uninformed, please teach me what goes into restoring these decommissioned guns? It looks like fun! It appears everything is there, but the receiver is torched. Are people welding them back together? I know I have also seen flat receiver stampings that need to be bent and welded for some of the more popular models. Thanks in advance

Answered a WTS ad for a "Sears Ranger 101.16 semi-auto 22 riffle, $150" recently. When I read the ad, I said to myself, "I wonder if this is the riffle I think it is?"

When I met the seller, it was the riffle I was thinking of:

The photo is that of a Springfield 87M, and the Ranger 101.16 is the exact same Sears version of it, except for rollmarks in the metal. My Ranger 101.16 variant even has the original spring sheet metal rear sight leaf, which were overly hard and prone to breaking. The Ranger is in the same minty condition as the 87M in the photo.

The 87M was a descendant of the Savage Model 6 "gill gun," aka "click-clack" after the sound the action makes when fired. The bolt makes a "click" sound when the rifle is fired, and stays to the rear if the trigger is held back, and then makes a "clack" sound when the trigger is released and the bolt feeds a round and goes into battery. The "gill gun" nickname comes from the several gas vent slots in the left side of the receiver and the single slot in the right side in front of the ejection port.

Fun fact: The 87M was NOT a "Garand Trainer" as has been, and is still often claimed by sellers of the 87M. It was an M1 Rifle look-alike for kids, period; sold mostly in the 1950s and never used by .gov as a "trainer" for troops prior to learning to shoot the M1 Rifle.

Not for me, for the Mrs, and it was yesterday. These things are hard to find for a decent price in black cherry. The transfer only took an hour and 15 minutes. Woo hoo!
