Good luck man! There are definately alot of them up there. We had a place up there off of Rt 44 by oswayo up until 2 years ago and it was loaded with them the last couple of years. Where are you at in Potter?

I still don't have them down here LOL. Sometimes I think I hear what sounds like a coyote bark, but after listening it's just my neighbors dumb little dog again.

I'm told they are still at the location I was trapping at last year. I'll still set over there, all coyote traps with proper staking, and let God's Dog decide wether it wants to step in one or not. They are smart SOB's too. I will get mad if they rip up red foxes I catch. Last season they were nice enough to not touch a single one of them.

I know of some guys who hunt yotes in Potter county. I was talking to one of them and he told me about how some of them have a deeper howl and sound just like wolves. I bet those are some big coyotes! Oh yeah, these guys lay out bait and everything and still don't get a shot. He had one coming in and put the light on it and that coyote detected the light and just as he was squeezing the shot off, that yote bolted. He was told that despite is being a red lense light, it was too intense and the animal detected it.

I have no doubt some of these eastern coyotes are smart as wolves, coming from them interbreeding with eastern Canadian wolves. A yote and fox trapper once told me " a coyote makes a fox look retarded, and a wolf makes a coyote look retarded".

I'll be heading up to Oswayo next weekend, too.
Planning on ridding the Hatchery woods of 'yotes (or at least tring too).
Wouldn't you like to know what's in my safe.

I actually shot one last year at my buddies grandfathers farm in Snyder Co that had the mainge! I didnt realize it when i shot it but when i walked up i saw that it had no hair at all so i didnt touch that damn thing. He was out again on that farm the other night and saw 5 of them out in the same field and its really strange how there are no fawns left on that farm at all this year.

I hope that my posting in this thread doesn't jinx any of you LOL. They ARE a pest in some areas, just like my red foxes I love to trap so much.

If you are not seeing any fawns and you have coyotes- well the coyotes are why you aren't finding any fawns. I found 2 doe fawn remains when antler hunting last spring, and a 3rd was found by someone else. Eaten to bones and rib cages all chewed up. I don't know if they were natural winter kill, bad shots and no long term tracking, or if all 3were killed and eaten by the small coyote pack over there.
