Re: CeraKote Before and After
If your slide is just a little loose the cerakote on the slide and frame will tighten it up , if you spread the rails to bring it back to specs you can also have a new problem after coating not being able to fit the 2 parts back together. The coating adds .003 t0 .005 of an inch when the parts are properly coated. When coating 1911's that are closely fitted you have to get a nice even coating 1 to 2 applications or you may have fitting problems. Also everyone considering cerakote should be aware that it will wear on the rails and were parts contact each other just like any original finish will do. Also I have found that coating revolver cylinders just does not work,I have not found any coating-ceramic- cerakote, gunkote or duracoat that my youngest son-my tester- can't burn off the cylinder from shooting.

Re: CeraKote Before and After
Brian, I tend to agree with the coating of the revolver cylinders. In the cases that I have done so far though, they are mainly CC guns and don't get fired much. The customers wanted the wearability factor (both the wear on the finish and the resistance to corrosion).

Re: CeraKote Before and After
Xringshooter I agree with you 100% percent and I always do what the customer wants as well, I was just looking for a coating that I could apply in my shop that my son could not burn off his revolver, he's a heavy shooter averages about 200 to 250 rounds of 38 special in his snub nose every time we go to the range. The frame on his is actually matte black duracoat it was one of the first firearms that I coated 2 years ago-frame looks like new and now the cylinder has changed coatings 2 more times since then and is currently O.D. green cerakote which has held up twice as good compared to gunkote or duracoat.
