Blackhawk paddle retention holster...
I recently purchased a XDm .40 and I picked up a Blackhawk paddle holster today at a local shop. I have used a blackhawk holster with my glock 27 and the gun fits very snug, but with the XDm, the gun moves around a lot.
It has a good half inch of wiggle in the holster, anyone else have this issue?

Re: Blackhawk paddle retention holster...
I have the Blackhawk Serpa. Listed for Springfield xd compact (or service models). I use it with my xdm 3.8 and it fits well. Little wiggle front to back (less than 1/8")

Re: Blackhawk paddle retention holster...
Is it the Serpa?
If so be real careful when drawing the gun, lots of highly trained people have shot themselves pushing the button to release the firearm under stress or while not giving 100% concentration.
Sorry cant comment on the wiggle, I just think its a dangerous holster

Re: Blackhawk paddle retention holster...
Are you sure you have the right model holster for the firearm? Might want to try tightening up the retention screw.

Re: Blackhawk paddle retention holster...
I got a sheet of felt from the store Michaels for less than $2 and used that. Just cut it then pull off the paper on the back and stick it on.

Is this the guy you were talking about?

I wouldn't blame the holster for someone shooting themselves.
My blackhawk has very minimal wiggle room, less than an 1/8th inch. You shouldn't have to put felt on a new holster to make it work. You might try tightening the retention screw just below the finger release.
If that doesn't work I would take it back and get the proper holster.I would even take my firearm to make sure it fits properly before I buy a holster.

Re: Blackhawk paddle retention holster...
No, I dont keep a list of that, but more instances of people shooting themselves because of the design than any other holster ive seen.
Its also Banned from some competitions and training.
I suppose I did exaggerate when saying "lots of highly trained", but the first link is a firearms instructor.
There are some other instances of "trained" people, but they require you to register on another forum(Lightfighter)

Re: Blackhawk paddle retention holster...
Sorry, no. You CANNOT fire your weapon by pressing the retention button.
These "highly trained" people are using the tips of their finger to push the release button instead of laying the finger across it like youre supposed to. As they clear the holster, their finger is already curled (remember, they are using their finger tips to press the release) and naturally falls into the bang switch and they have a ND.
The Serpa was designed so that when you clear the holster, your finger is already parallel to the trigger (remember youre laying your finger across the button to release retention) and THEN you place it in the trigger guard when you are ready to engage the target.
Some schools disallow it's use because many buy this holster and never learn to use it, then blame the holster instead of their "skill". The schools want to limit liability.
And yes, I own one.Hold the Line...

Re: Blackhawk paddle retention holster...
I have a pair of Serpa's that I use on occasion, and while practicing with it, I never once thought about using my finger tip in the way that you're talking about. I've always done what you said, keeping the finger parallel with the firearm as it's drawn.
Maybe those highly trained people, aren't so highly trained after all.Rules are written in the stone,
