New guy needs help in Kennett Square area
Evening gents.
As you probably notice, I'm not a PA resident.
I've got a friend here in WYO whose daughter just started Doctoring at a hospital in Philadelpia. She and her husband just moved to Kennett Square.
She's a darn smart kid, same age as my oldest daughter (early 30's) and is well on her way to doing good things for people in need of her medical skills.
Her father is interested in finding her some GOOD handgun training and getting her handguns transferred from WY to PA. He's willing to fund it all.
I've spent time with her with her S&W 3913 and some .22 semi-autos here in WYO. She's been in Chicago the last few years honing her skills in ER's. She's very analytical and deeply interested in learning, but just flat hasn't had the time during her residency programs to take any handgun courses.
If anyone here can help with:
1. receiving handguns via FFL for transfer;
2. recommending GOOD training, not just safety, but tactics as well;
I'd appreciate a PM or response here.
You'll be doing your area a favor as a good doctor is darn important, a lot more important than some thug hanging around the hospital parking lot looking for an easy target. We want to give her the ability to stay around and do good things for the future.
This gal is SHARP and doesn't have a "holier than thou attitude", either.
I'd really appreciate some help here.
Thanks lots.

Re: New guy needs help in Kennett Square area
Since she's moving here from Illinois, I'm guessing she has no carry license/permit. She will want to get a PA License to Carry Firearms (LTCF). Kennett is in Chester County and the info is at http://dsf.chesco.org/sheriff/cwp/vi...8&sheriffNav=|.
Bringing guns into the state requires no paperwork, and registration is forbidden by state law, but . . .
the State Police maintain a database of handgun transfers that many cops treat as "registration." Guns have been confiscated because they are not "registered," and sometimes it requires the services of an attorney to get them back. So she should consider taking her carry gun to an FFL to "transfer" it to herself.
PA has some silly restrictions about transporting a handgun in a vehicle, even unloaded and locked in the trunk. Without a license (from any state) you can only transport a handgun directly to/from a range, gun shop, summer home. So her husband may want to consider getting an LTCF as well, even if he's not a gun guy.
Very few places are off-limits here (schools and courthouses, basically), a refreshing change from a whole state that is off-limits.

Re: New guy needs help in Kennett Square area
Thanks for the good ideas.
I've been through the PAFOA website and sent lots of links to her dad to send to her.
Her guns are in Wyoming and will be sent to an FFL in PA to get them to her.
We'd like to get her some more shooting time and some tactical/self defense training to get her more comfortable with her S&W.
It's been 3-4 years since she shot it last with me...

I'm a member at Southern Chester County Sportsman and Farmers Association (www.sccsfa.org) which is in Kennett Square. Let me know if she is interested in joining. The club has a lot to offer and even has a stocked lake if they're into fishing. The do offer classes and have competitions as well.

Southern Chester County Sportsman and Farmers Association isn't really in Kennett Square. it is about 5 miles outside to the west.
I have an issue with any range that stipulates what originations you have to be a member of in order to join their club. This is why I am not a member there.Regards Robert
