    Default New Pistol Cleaning

I recently purchased several new handguns (Remington 1911, Ruger SR9, Ruger LCP, along with some revolvers) but as far as the autos all I've done was oil the slide; what should I be doing to clean them while they're new? Thanks a lot

You should field strip them according to the instructions, give them a good cleaning and then the normal lubrication. You'll find a lot of packing grease from the factory.

You may also want to check your manuals that came with each gun. Some manufacturers, such as Glock, pack their pistols with a certain grease that they recommend to not remove and instead go directly out and fire the gun to break it in. Others will have anti-corrosive materials on them for packaging that is not a good substance to remain on the gun for firing. In this case, give it a very good thorough cleaning after field stripping and give it a good solid lubrication. After lubrication, it would probably be a good idea to rack the slide quite a number of times to make sure that nothing is grabbing or rubbing without lubrication.

Read the firearms' manuals. They give instructions on how to disassemble the gun and the steps to clean it. Some manufacturers, like Kimber, tell you specific pieces to lubricate and how much oil you should use on them.

As far as autos, cleaning the barrel is important. Again, read the manuals.
