If everyone who likes cities shared your opinion we'd ALL move to Ogden Utah and it too would be a toilet.

I'm approaching half a century in this place and have never lived in or frequented areas like those pictured. I've never been mugged, shot, stabbed, groped, raped or rolfed (although I heard it feels good).
Sadly i've worked in those areas for a couple decades, and have been mugged, shot, and ran over (twice). :-/

I'm glad that you mentioned parking. Because the PPA is one of the very worst parts about living here (besides the 5% city wage tax). They are flat out criminals with badges.

Actually, i did post a picture of center city, from just a few blocks outside the skyscraper area.

Once you get a few blocks outside the trendy areas, in pretty much every direction....it's a blighted and decaying combat zone full of people that would just as soon cut your throat as smile at you.

Inside the trendy zones there is no parking, it's congested, and the PPA prowls the streets looking to jack you up for every dime they can get out of you, and tow your car away to be held by ransom at one of their many lovely storage facilities.

Well, just because you make crappy choices, doesn't mean everyone in the city does or will.

I'm glad that you mentioned parking. Because the PPA is one of the very worst parts about living here. They are flat out criminals with badges.
    I hadn't noticed. I haven't had a car in 6 years. No need.

How is that in any way off topic? The discussion is about philly.

Some posters were singing it's praises, i offered a (highly realistic) counter-view. Blight, crime, the PPA, city wage taxes, these are all facts of life in this city.

As far as "bad choices," a man's got to eat, i went where my work took me. Just as tens of thousands of workers that have to go into those areas every day do.

That's not Center City and a couple miles from those skyscrapers in the distance. Based on the orientation of the Liberty Place towers, that's North Philly.

It is a picture of center city in the near distance. It is North Philly, which is right outside the purtied up (and nazi like PPA patrolled areas) of downtown.

In any case, no need to argue about this all day. I posted the ugly side of Philly's vast, blighted, crime riddled underbelly.

So the OP knows what's lurking just below the polished (and nazi like PPA patrolled) surface. Namely: The third world.

If you define "near distance" and "a few blocks" as several miles, then ok, no argument here.

Welcome to America. Enjoy your stay. Leave Philadelphia at your earliest convenience. There are plenty of decent areas around Philadelphia.

North Philly extends right up to Center city in places, and so does S philly, and those places are combat zones- hence my use of those terms. As you may notice in that picture, the blight continues on for quite some distance toward the sky scrapers.

Of course, being a philly resident, you probably know this.
