Do I have to take the safety course?
Hey guys, was just given my first compound bow by my grandfather and am interested in hitting the woods this year for the first time. What I am wanting to know is do I have to take a safety course even though I am over 18 years of age? I commute each week from my home in Allegheny Co., to my college in Lima, Ohio so it would be hard for me to take as every course I have found is running during the week, otherwise I would have no problem taking the course.
Also, is there anyway to take the course online?
Any help is greatly appreciated/

Re: Do I have to take the safety course?
Any first time hunter must take the Safety Course.
There is an online verion, but you still need to attend a session for completing the course and the test.
Good luck and be safe.

If you only learn 1 thing from the safety course, it will be worth it.

Yes, take the test. Also, if this is your first time shooting archery you best get out and practice every single day if you plan to hit the woods this year. What kinda bow did you end up with? I'm guessing Matthews ... lol.

Re: Do I have to take the safety course?
Lol, yes it's a Mathews. My grandfather has lost interest in it now that he has his crossbow and I have wanted one for sometime now but couldn't afford the cost.
Thanks for the info guys!
Is there anyway I can study the course online and just showup to the course somewhere for a test? As I said, I have not yet found a course I will be able to take because of my school time.
Once again, any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Do I have to take the safety course?
Looking through the calendar, nothing is looking good for me as I am in class monday-thursday over 4 hours away.
Looking like I'll have to sit out this year.

Re: Do I have to take the safety course?
While not legal, I have seen people show up with an old, empty license holder and ask for their hunting license. Mainly at Walmart... Most clerks do not ask to see your old license or your card, and once you have your license, then you have it... Not suggesting this should be done, just something I have noticed in the past...
