Taurus 85 +P rated?
I have a Taurus 85 Ultralite (but NOT Titanium). I've read on several other forums that this model is +P rated, but I'm looking for confirmation. It's not indicated on the firearm itself. Supposedly the manual provides some information, but I bought this gun used so I don't have the manual, the Taurus site is currently down, and I'm impatient!

Re: Taurus 85 +P rated?
I just looked on gunbroker. They show 14 different Taurus 85's and all say 38SP and none were 357.

Re: Taurus 85 +P rated?
It should be fine for limited use for defensive purposes.
I would not have a problem using +P in that model for that purpose.

Re: Taurus 85 +P rated?
FWIW, Wiki says it is. Taurus' site is down, but I'm pretty sure that I read that my 851 Ultralite is rated for +P. My 851 is just a shrouded hammer version of the 85.

Re: Taurus 85 +P rated?
Since I think it's important to practice with what you carry, I'm not looking for an ammo choice that requires rationing for safety reasons. If it is +P rated by the manufacturer, then I expect to be able to shoot +P ammo exclusively with no special safety concerns when compared to 'normal' (lower-pressure) loads.
With all due respect, I'm looking for a verifiable determination, not an "it should be fine".Get your "Guns Save Lives" stickers today! PM for more info.

Re: Taurus 85 +P rated?
Lets answer that Question: +P But Not +P+
This is from page 4 of the Taurus catalog: +P RATED FOR DUTY USE®
All Taurus handguns are engineered to accept a steadydiet of factory-new Plus-P (+P) ammunition built to SAAMI specifications. This includes the Ultra-Lite hammer forged aluminum alloys, Titanium, blue steel and stainless steel models. Rest assured, your Taurus will be ready, especially when you’re counting on it.

Re: Taurus 85 +P rated?
Thank you. I do understand that there is no SAAMI specification for any +P+ ammo, so I'm not surprised that manufacturers are hesitant to rate their firearms for it.
Now the OCD in me wants to know exactly what "For duty use" includes.
I believe that many here expend more rounds through our daily carry guns in a year that many LEOs do through their duty weapon, so is it possible we're pushing the limits of what "duty rated" actually means?Get your "Guns Save Lives" stickers today! PM for more info.

Re: Taurus 85 +P rated?
HEY!!!! I'm one of those "for duty use" people and I blow through a wallet flattening amount of ammo each year. Even counting the fact that I reload all of my .45 ACP.
2000 rounds per year of .45ACP
4000 rounds per year of 9mm
God knows how much 22 LR I go through...
That's a lot of shooting in a year. I will say that I know quite a few fellow LEOs who shoot maybe 200 rounds a year qualifying and that's it. All they care about is getting enough hits into the kill zone to pass quals. Sad, but there it is.The M1. Smackin' the bastards since 1932.
