    Default Courthouse Question

So...last night a thought occurred to me. The lockers that the courts have provided for firearm storage, at least the ones I have used, have always been large enough to store a handgun only. Since you are allowed to open carry a long gun, say an AR-15, what would happen when you took that firearm with you to court? Where would they store the firearm?

It is legal to open carry a firearm such as an AR-15, therefore it is legal to go to the courthouse with the firearm, however I do not think ANY courthouse has the lockers available to comply with the law for any firearm larger then a handgun.

Thoughts? Am I wrong on this one?

It's not only legal to OC an AR-15.... It's legal to CONCEAL carry it LOADED and WITHOUT a LTCF

    outside of filthy-delphia

Just don't put it in your car loaded

18 Pa CSA 913(e) Facilities for checking firearms or other dangerous weapons.--Each county shall make available at or within the building containing a court facility by July 1, 2002, lockers or similar facilities at no charge or cost for the temporary checking of firearms by persons carrying firearms under section 6106(b) or 6109 or for the checking of other dangerous weapons that are not otherwise prohibited by law.
Since longarms are not carried under 6106 or 6109, IMO there is no duty to have checking facilities for them.

As BimmerJon pointed out, its legal to OC or CC a long gun without a license, except in a City of the First Class and during a declared emergency - which you then need a LTCF to carry a long gun in any fashion outside of your abode.

The part in bold will cover checking of other weapons including long guns, knives, and other legal weapons.

If youre going to quote the law, make sure you read the whole statute before making a point. :P

It's only cool if you bring 299 friends with you as well, otherwise, you'd just look like a nutcase.

That's not the way I read it since longguns are firearms under 913. Thus they are specifically included in the firearm clause to the exclusion of the 'other' clause.

    18 Pa CSA 913(f)
"Firearm." Any weapon, including a starter gun, which will or is designed to expel a projectile or projectiles by the action of an explosion, expansion of gas or escape of gas. The term does not include any device designed or used exclusively for the firing of stud cartridges, explosive rivets or similar industrial ammunition.
