Talking Picked up a little gem!

Well, I was trying to get rid of my Smith&Wesson Sigma for a while because I realized that it was reliable, but will never truly be what I actually wanted. I can't really blame anyone for it, but no one wanted to trade for a low-end pistol like it, so I went to the gun store and looked at just trading it in. That's when I spotted this little beauty and decided I had to have it.

It is a Sig Sauer P225, or P6, in 9x19mm actually from Germany! (Or at least as far as I can tell...)

It appears to be date stamped from 1981 and still has the stamping "Made in W Germany" on the slide. Being a little bit of a history junkie, I absolutely had to have it.

    Some Sig pr0n!

So, I feel a little bit better now that I have no more polymer frame pistols and that I no longer have just cheap junk around. I will try to get out hopefully this weekend (weather pending) to get a range report on it!

I like it. Those german made guns are great. It looks exactly like a p226.

That is the impression I have gotten so far and I feel glad that I finally own one myself. I was doing a little research here after I brought it home and it appears that I have a genuine P6 model, which was a German police issue version of the P225. Apparently the giveaway is the hammer with the notch... I'm no expert, but it makes me even more glad that I broke down and bought it.

Good score! Nice to be able to have something that hits both the history and firearms enthusiasms.

    Du hast recht.

The P6 is a slightly modified P225 single-column 9x19 DA/SA handgun with decocker lever instead of a safety. The modified hammer has the cut to act as a telltale if the gun was dropped on the hammer and the lockwork possibly damaged as a result.

The "NW" signifies issue to the police force of the province "Nord-Rhein / Westfaelen, or North Rhein / Westfalia in English, abbreviated today as "NRW" by postal services. NRW is in the area north of Frankfurt, including Koeln, (Cologne), Duesseldorf/Neuss, Wuppertal, and Bochum.

Small world department: We had a foreign exchange student with us for 10 months in 2006 who was from Recklinghausen in NRW, and three years later I picked up a P6 in the box which had a label on it with a NRW cop's last name and "Recklinghausen" below it. Our exchange student's father knew the policeman to whom my P6 was once issued.

Oh, it's OK to do that now? We can stop blaming Bush for everything?

That would be awesome to have happen.

All of that tells me for sure that it's at least legit, which makes me happy. I feel bad that the gun shop owner only wanted so little for it, but he was selling it on consignment, so I think someone needed money really badly. Their loss is my gain, right? I mean my Sigma trade-in pretty much paid for it!

Noah, you definitely seem to have some great stories around here. Thank you for sharing that one.
