Default My Ruger P85 MKII is rusting!

And this makes me very, very sad.

I'm a bad owner and I left it in a leather thumb-break holster for too long. It's been my nightstand firearm since I got my Glock, and when taking it out today to give it a lookover and a possible cleaning, I found lots of rust built up along the slide.

This bothers me significantly. What can be done to remedy this, aside from sending it back to Ruger for a $110 re-blueing process? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

ETA: I am a jackass and forgot to use the search function. I am looking through the results now...sorry.

    LOL - too late.

I'll take some super duper steel wool to it and give it a coat of oil...then I think I may go sell it. I keep my EDC Glock by the bed at night anyway, so there's really no need to have an old tank like this laying around. It was my first firearm ever, but I'm not a supremely sentimental guy.

Although it has seen the inside of the Philadelphia Evidence Unit. We'll see how I feel after I fix it up, heh.

P85 tend to rust. I have the same problem. Steelwool it and oil, yes. Then let another coat of oil just sit there for a while and repeat the process.

I'd try PB Blaster, CLP or Kroll first, without the steel wool. Then as a last resort use the steel-wool. You'll get a lot of bashing on this, because it's a Ruger..... but they do make a good gun for the money. Those red grips though... just say'n.

Hmm... perhaps I should go check on mine. It hasn't seen the light of day in a while.

I would hold off on the steel wool and start with just the oil and a rag as well.

I would blame it on passing through a bunch of greasy hands...

Is that a rough gray blast blued finish? if so that type of finish is very prone to rust. Get it nitrocarburized, then use Eezox on it..

    Rust... So what?
    It's just finish wear.
Clean it up, oil it, and use it. You weren't planning to pass an unused gun on to your kids anyhow, were you?

    You know what?

    Maybe I will.

It may not be a bad idea to switch it up a bit and carry the Ruger as my EDC for a while. After all, I have great OC and CC holsters for it.
