Re: 1911 gunsmith in Altoona/ St. College area
I have used this shop twice. The first time was many years ago when I wanted an antique .22 short derringer repaired. The hammer mechanism was cracked in half and he machined a new one for me. Yes it worked fine after that.
The second time was about 3 weeks ago. I needed the rear sight on my Kimber broken free so I could adjust it. He was very nice and this recent job only took 2 days.
I do not know if he does the type of work you are looking for. I do not know how good he would be for this type of work. I can only let you know about my experiences.
Give him a call. Good Luck.

Re: 1911 gunsmith in Altoona/ St. College area
Here is the background on the piece. I acquired a few weeks back on a trade. I and 4 friends have shot this gun. From a rest it is on the mark, but free hand it is low about a foot and usually left. I took it to one of my friends friends that used to shoot comp and he agreed that the trigger is heavy and gritty. But unfortunately all of his friends that used to work on 45's are out of it now.
Someone has done work to this gun before but I don't think any trigger work. It has a an "Ed Brown" barrel, and I'm pretty sure the trigger itself has been replaced. It also has some abortion added to the back of the grip that flips down and extends for wrist support.
I would like to have the trigger lightened up , the abortion removed, and an adjustable rear sight mounted to this gun.
