Default Marlin 1894 Prefix S Questions

Can anyone tell me what the prefix S stands for in the reloading manuals and can it handle hot loads like the manuals say. Thanks, Joe

Not sure what you mean by "prefix S in the reloading manuals" means. Can you clarify?

If you refer to the Marlin 1894S, the "S" is a suffix and stands for "safety," meaning that the rifle has a crossbolt safety.

Thanks for answering, sorry for the wrong forum (fat fingers). In some of my reloading manuals it says prefix S is for a hot load. They note for a T/C or Colt and I was wondering what the S meant. Thank You, Joe

    Noah_Zark covered the "S".

The 1894 will handle standard pressure, from near squib to max levels. I'd avoid specialty loads beyond the SAAMI pressure of 36K PSI. A few shouldn't hurt it, but continuous shooting of hot loads could loosen up the action. Also, some of those specialty loads with really heavy slugs are at or beyond spec AOL, so feeding might pose issues.

That's why I love this forum, all my questions get answered. I'm at work right now and the manuals are at home. Thinking about it, the manual said with cross safety and with prefix S. I thought they were two different things, but I probably read it wrong. Thanks for all the advise. Joe
