To rail or not to rail...That is the question

What do you guys think of accessory rails on 1911's?

I'm about to buy a Kimber Custom TLE II and I'm debating if I should get the one with the rail or not. I don't really like how it looks but it could be useful especially since I plan on getting a Streamlight TLR-2s for my Glock 23.

Also, what do you think of the Kimber?

i personally find the kimber overpriced. i like the look and feel of these guns but can,t justify the $. you can see the quality in their finish work and machining. as for a rail just ask yourself are you really going to hang and use a light off the bottom. if it is a must have, go for it. one thought is if you need it and don,t have it your screwed but having it and not needing it is no drawback except for cosmetics. if you have to go with kimber get the laser in the grip and forgo the rail.

Never owned a Kimber, but have shot a ton of them. Had the honor of shooting a Match Limited that has one of the best triggers I have ever felt, but they did not make many of them. Compared to a SA TRP or a Colt rail gun, they do have a couple models that may be a little overpriced, but some of the $$$ is in the name. I have read tons of Kimber hater mail, but have never seen anything that would make me not own one. I simply believe there are better deals on new 1911's, which is why I've never purchased a Kimber. If you like Kimber and want a light on it, then go for it. Don't forget that 1911's do break from time to time and Kimber only has a one year warranty. I'm kind of old school in that a rail doesn't fit a 1911, but by no means do I think it looks bad. Want to see an ugly rail gun, look at a USP Elite. Without the rail...sweet!

I had a Kimber CDP II, and of all the guns that have passed through my hands, it was the least reliable. I couldn't ever trust it (feed issues). That was over a total of about 800 rounds, different brands of Ammo, and different mags, including Wilson Combat (the included Kimber mags were especially bad). Traded it for a SA Range Officer, and that was 100% reliable. So, in fact, is my Rock Island Armory. I know there's good and bad among all guns/brands, but I'd never own another Kimber.

My HD gun is a shotgun so I doubt I'll use it for HD. I will probably open carry it to gun bashes and hold it in a should holster when I'm wearing a suit. So I'm leaning towards not getting the rail.

I have been hearing a lot of hating on Kimbers and a lot of praises for Springfield. I'm debating on if I should check one of them out instead. Or maybe even a Colt XSE or something.
