    Default Beretta 92FS replacement?

    Hey guys,

I currently own a Beretta 92FS, and I really like it. I especially like the DA/SA trigger (which I know many others don't agree with it) and the open slide design. However, I wish it were more Glockish, especially with the polymers and nitride finishing (not a fan of chrome). Both brands are incredibly durable, which I also enjoy.

Are there any pistols out there that combine at least some of the aspects of the two? Specifically: ultra-durable, long-lasting, polymer, DA/SA, nitride finishing? 9mm, that is.

I've been looking at the HK line, but I can't seem to find out what finishing they use on their barrels. I also don't know which of their 9mm models is equivalent to the Beretta 92FS. Is it the USP Tactical?

Lastly, are there any other brands/models I'm missing that fit this criteria?

    Don't overlook the Beretta PX4.

It would seem to offer everything you are looking for.

The Beretta Ninety Two is a polymer design of the trusted 92fs and I am not sure but I believe it comes with a rail now. (Yes it does)

If not the current gen M9A1 has a rail.

The 92 series are a big gun and not much weight is lost on its poly form but in my opinion it is a great firearm.

try the Sig 2022, they can be had for right around $400 NIB, have a picatinny rail, very smooth DA/SA trigger, polymer frame, and all the reliability Sig (once was) renown for.

I'll be the third to say FN.

I have both a USP Tactical and a USP Compact...I plan on selling them both for an FN. They are a better pistol and an answer to your quandary.

How much do you feel like spending? Is this going to be a range gun, HD gun, carry gun?

If its going to be a range / HD gun, then I would go Beretta PX4, FN Herstal FNX-9 (make sure its an FNX not an FNP, FNPs tend to be snappier and not as happy to run as the new X series.), HK USP, Glock 17, Sig Sauer SP2022, Etc. Flip a coin, ignore the result and pick the one you want.

If its going to be a carry gun, then I would say you should seriously consider the width of the slide and the gun's profile. It is much more uncomfortable to carry a gun with a wide slide / grip which have all kinds of jagged protrusions coming up off the back end. That's why I prefer the new HKs for carry (P30, HK45C). They have slimmer slide and grip profiles which are very nicely rounded at the ends. It makes them very comfortable to live with.

An HK tactical would be a great addition to your 92sf. I've been thinking about that same thing in 9mm. Or a lot cheaper a Stoger 8009 in 9mm, a Beretta Cougar miinus $150-$200.

I have an HK Tactical 9mm. I would not use this to carry, though.

Posters here mention other handguns - must put on my wish list. Thanks for the ideas, guys!!
