Default Please help.... looking for advice on .22

Hi, I am going to purchase a new or used .22 pistol this week. I am looking for a good quality target gun something to put a lot of rounds down range. I am not sure as to what I want. My gut is telling me I want a Ruger mark II or mark III target model but I am not sure. My budget is in the $500.00 range any advice in what you have and what feeds ammo would help. Thanks Joe P.S, The gun must have adjustable sights as I want a tack driver.

Browning Buckmark. They are extremely reliable, nice looking, and very comfortable in the hand. You probably can't go wrong with either a MKII/MKIII or a Buckmark, just get whichever is more comfortable for you.

What I usually do when buying a handgun is point the gun at a target (or any specific point in the room) without looking at the sights. Just point it instinctively. Then look at the sights and see if they are pointing in the same direction. If it's pointing really high or low, then the gun is not for you.

You can't go wrong with a Browning Buckmark.I've had the Camper, model for 2 years now with at least 5000 rounds through it without so much as a hiccup plus it's a real tack driver. My buddy has the Ruger you're looking at & although it's also accurate he swears he likes mine better & he shoots better with mine. The Browning also feels better in the hand. One more thing that's important to me is that the Ruger model you're thinking about is a real pain to disassemble for cleaning,& that's an understatement. Check out the Browning Buckmark before you make any final decisions. Oh yeah,& it has adjustable sights.Prices start at around $240 & go up from there to around $500

When I was looking for a .22 I was looking at Buckmarks and Rugers. The grip on the buckmark is what sold me on the gun. I even liked the cheap rubber grip the best. The gun has at least 10,000 rds through it and no problems. It's also very accurate. I think either one is a great gun. Another one to consider would be an older High Standard. My buddy has a few of them and says they are super accurate and really good guns. I would pick them up and see which one feels the best to you.

You can't go wrong with a Ruger. Yeah... I'm a bit biased.

If you can find a High Standard I would jump on it. The Military Citation is an excellent target pistol. It was available with a 7" fluted barrel or a 5.5" bull barrel. I won a lot of matches with this pistol.

You can not go wrong with a Buckmark or one of the Ruger Mark series guns.

+1 on High Standard! I have two old ones, a 1941 Model A and a 1946 H-D Military, both are still tack drivers. I didn't pay more than $300 for either one

Browning Buckmark or Ruger Mk II/III would be very good choices. I suggest you get a model with adjustable sights. At the same time if you find a High Standard or S&W Model 41 or Model 17 revolver (any of these used) jump on them you won't go wrong.

I also have one. They are not readily available though. I have never seen one in the gun stores. Mine came from a friend who has passed on.

Mine is a HD Military. The best I found on the date is prior to 1945.
