    Default Hammer question

I recently acquired a Baretta 96D from an old friend, and had a question about the hammer. It has a spurless hammer on it, I'm not familiar with this kind of hammer because I usually only shoot revolvers, anyway on to my question: Is there anyway to replace the hammer with one I can cock, preferably a Skeleton hammer, I think that's what there called. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe the D in 96D means double action only. If that is the case you would be out of luck with a simple hammer swap. Ive put the question up for the real Beretta junkies, you can follow that here http://berettaforum.net/vb/showthrea...593#post700593 Good luck.

In Berettas the "D" designation means "double action only". That's why there is no spur on the hammer.

you could put a spur hammer on it but you couldn't cock it. notice that the hammer never stays cocked.

FYI... PA State Police (and PSP liquor enforcement) used to carry the 96D as standard issue, before they switched to Glocks.

There are some 96Ds out there with the PSP logo laser etched on the frame

I think PA game wardens carried them also.

If you are use to revolvers basically the 96D operates like a 11-13 shot 40 cal revolver without a cylinder. The trigger smoother then most revolvers out of the box maybe not a Python but most others. Its one of the safest semi autos because its long smooth deliberate trigger. I have one its a great semi auto.
