Default Canning Discussion: was Fresh Dill

I need a favor from someone in the lancaster area. I'm sitting here with 28lbs of fresh cucumbers ready to make pickles tomorrow (hopefully) and I have been unable to find any place that has fresh dill. I've tried farm stands several grocery stores and have had no luck.

Anyone out there growing their own fresh dill that they don't need at the moment? I'd gladly trade a jar of my super secret Chili Sauce and a jar of homemade Ketchup for some fresh dill for my pickles.

Dunno if it helps but Walmart sells all the spices mixed in a pack. I tried it once and it ain't all that bad.......I am to far out to get you the dill but maybe this little tidbit might help a little.

Wouldn't work. When you're doing homemade Dill pickles, you put a clove of garlic in the bottom of the jar, pack in the cucumbers, and then put a sprig of fresh dill in the top. Pour in your pickling juice and seal. Dried nasty dill just doesn't really cut the mustard, ya know?

Doesn't wal mart have a spot in the produce section that sells fresh dill in a little 3x5 clear plastic container? Over by the "organic" area? I'm almost positive my sis uses it from there for her pickling.

Rabbits got my dill this year, sorry.
Let's not forget there are still species of tropical penguins living in the Galapagos.

I have 3 stores near me that *typically* carry it fresh, how soon do you need it?
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Note to Self: If you're gonna grow 28 lbs of cucumbers for pickling - Grow some dill. Just an idea for next year.

ASAP, I can only keep the cucumbers cold for so long before they won't be good for pickling, I like crisp pickles.

I'm gonna be trying a couple more places tomorrow, hopefully I can find some close by.

I didn't grow them myself, I wish I could, but don't have the space for that many vines. The three vines I have going right now are already invading my tomato planes and pole beans. I got these from a local farmstand.

I haven't had any luck growing spices unfortunately even though I've tried many times. I've had dill, chives and basil, all of them died, dunno why. I'm good at regular garden veggies, but spices, not so much.

Any other time then now, I can walk into a produce section and see huge bunches of fresh dill, come home with 28lbs of cukes, and can't find a single store with it.

There's a ton of farm stands here where I'm working here in Delaware, I'll start looking around. Worst case scenario if you don't find any by Friday and I can source some here I'd be more than happy to make a stop on my way back out west. I know what it's like needing something fresh and not being able to find it.
