    If you can find recipes that give the amounts by weight instead of volume then it wouldn't be a problem substituting the salt.

    Most of the salt I use is for taste anyway, not so much pickling. I'm sure I can find canning salt if I look harder.

    At Redner's it's across the aisle from the Ball jars and lids up the other end of the store from the baking goods.

    I just picked up 2 more boxes of pickling salt from Walmart yesterday, spice aisle, bottom shelf.

    I looked a few days ago at my local WM, and all they had was the prepackaged pickling stuff. Canning supplies were well stocked.

    I was surprised. Canning is pretty big around here still. Grabbed a bunch of lids since there were plenty available.

    Found a couple bone in ham shanks over the weekend that got passed over because they were in with the spiral hams. Got em de-boned, chunked up and canning them up. Good eats!

    I try to avoid buying canning stuff at the store. Damned expensive. Did score a ball electric jelly maker way out of session for 1/5th the normal price.

    Really like by tattler reusable lids.
