TC Contender, What caliber do you shoot?
I have an old TC Contender with a .44 magnum, 8 inch, 8 sided barrel sitting in the safe and was thinking about getting a new barrel for it. Bullberry Barrels makes a .221 Fireball barrel for it that impresses me. I would go for the 14 inch one. Does anyone have experience with the Bullberry Barrels or any other type and what caliber do you shoot? Joe

44 mag or .308 would be my options maybe 357mag or .223.

The old Contender normallu is not available in .308. Can not recommend a caliber but can give you one to avoid-.357 Max.
We had one several years and spent good money and time to learn that the really good loads were all in the .357 Mag range. One of Sierra's reps. said that those were their results as well.Courage is being scared to death--but saddling up any way. John Wayne

223, 30 Herrett, 357 herret, 410 / 45lc, 45.70
I also just picked up a s&w 500 barrel for an encore. And I am paying on a .243 barrel on an Encore frame.troll Free. It's all in your mind.

Re: TC Contender, What caliber do you shoot?
I would love to have a .243 but from what I read, there's too much chamber pressure for the older contenders. I also read that the .221 like the .222 Shoots a lot better than the .223 in a shorter barrel. I have no proof, just what I read. (I'll have to buy all three barrels to compare). Joe

Re: TC Contender, What caliber do you shoot?
I have a 10" bull-barrel in .221 Fireball, scoped with a Burris 7X AO IER. I also have a .357 Maximum, 10" bull-barrel with irons. Used to have a .30 Herrett, but that barrel was stolen.
The 14" barrel, in .221 Fireball, of which you spoke is unnecessary length. The .221 Fireball cartridge was developed for short barrels in the Remington XP100, which had a barrel slightly longer than 10" (10.5" IIRC) and was able to generate 2700 fps.
