Re: so I have some extra cash...
The Colt is an option but I am not sure if I want to go that route, I would definately buy their repro they did of the M1911 and M1911A1 that they did last year I think though. As for the Remington, I do not feel that is is a true replica, considering the options that are on it, and I do not think it lives up to it's price tag. I'll definately take a look at the Colts when I get down to a shop!

You want a 45 acp, you want a revolver? That's the definition of a S&W 625!

Re: so I have some extra cash...
Could not agree more with pstew. I picked up a 5" barreled version about 10 years ago, and will not part with it. IDPA got so pissed with that version winning all the time, that they reduced the box size to fit the 4" only model. If you do go that route, consider using 45 autorim loads. If you do not reload now, you will when you find out the cost of good 45acp. Dave_n

Looks like everyone is steering you toward a 1911. In my opinion I'd go with the S&W 627 - just a screaming awesome gun. Not a huge 1911 fan, but that's personal.

Re: so I have some extra cash...
My local shop has a colt m1911 in its case, looked like it was refinished badly in nickel. Price was $590. I would be a buyer a bit lower than that, and I do think its a great find, but I am concerned about shooting a 90 year old gun. By no means would I be putting 100,000 rounds through it, but do ya'll think it's safe to shoot something that old averaging maybe 400 rounds a year? I would definately fix the gun up with new springs and possibly a reblue, I know it detracts from the value but the finish is shot on it anyway, and I really wouldnt plan on selling it anytime soon.

Ended up getting the Colt! It is very rough, but at $450 OTD I figure I'll save up and have it professionally restored (as best it can be, of course...)

Re: so I have some extra cash...
If you can.
COLT
Simple really.
You will be happier
It will retain it's value
Slim women in Bikini's will flock to you
It will shoot well
It will be reliable
I have found that most folks who go other brands of 1911 will finally get the COLT and finally be happy.
Make yourself happy first.
