Forms of ID?
Hello, I tried to search for this everywhere but what are all the forms of ID accepted to buy a gun? My first gun won't be an issue because the lower is a gift from my dad. But I also want to get a Mosin Nagant and a Sig 522 I'll be 18 in month and don't have a state ID or driver's license. I also heard that you need to have you DL for at least 2 months prior to buying a gun, is there any truth to that? Could I use a birth certificate or anything else? Thanks in advance!

Re: Forms of ID?
18 Pa.C.S. § 6111, (b), (2):
Inspected photoidentification of the potential purchaser or transferee, including, but not limited to, a driver's license, official Pennsylvania photoidentification card or official government photoidentification card. In the case of a potential buyer or transferee who is a member of a recognized religious sect or community whose tenets forbid or discourage the taking of photographs of members of that sect or community, a seller shall accept a valid-without-photo driver's license or a combination of documents, as prescribed by the Pennsylvania State Police, containing the applicant's name, address, date of birth and the signature of the applicant.

Re: Forms of ID?
Also, after reading through that, there is no prescribed time limit on having your license, gub'mint ID, or any other forms of papers issued.
I think the license is a license, whether you've had it for a minute or a decade*.
*with the except of junior licenses, which won't apply to you.

Re: Forms of ID?
Just remember that until you are 21 you cannot buy a handgun from a dealer. Notice I said a dealer. As an 18 yr old, you can buy a handgun from a private party but the transfer would have to be done at a Sheriffs Office. A FFL holder cannot sell a handgun OR an AR lower, or any virgin receiver (because of the way they are classified by the BATFE) to anyone under 21.
So buying a SIG 522 or a Mosin shouldn't be a problem.
As far as the drivers license, as soon as it is issued to you it can be used for identification to purchase a long arm (as long as you are 18).Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Re: Forms of ID?
If you haven't passed the driver's test, you can always get the State non-drivers license.

Re: Forms of ID?
I would get a state ID or drivers license and soon. You might need one to vote as well.
I will tell you one not to present. I was told by a gunshop salesman someone tried to use a prison ID. That had to be the biggest fool around. I would still think he was kidding if not for being in the shop when someone asked if selling drugs with a 5 year stint in jail is a feloney. He then left the store.

Re: Forms of ID?
Thank guys, sorry I didn't notice the new replies. I got a state ID today so no more problems. I knew about the AR-15 lower issue which is why my dad is getting it for me for a gift. My upper kit should ship at the end of the week
