Default What Do You Think of This Dry Lube?

    Hello,

A while back I developed a dry bullet lube.

    It looks like this:

And again, after final polishing to take off the excess:

This was done after I got tired of messing with stick lubes and Alox.

Testing it in my own 1911 with 5.0grns Bullseye under the 230grn bullet (consult your manuals) revealed very little to no leading, and when there was the occasional streak, it didn't stick but came right off.

Cleaning was done with a pass of a boresnake.

I sent 500 bullets to a friend who has a Thompson fitted with a Cutt's Compensator. He loaded them hotter than I would for a 1911 and proceeded to run them through said Tommy gun. He had the same non-leading-of-the-barrel experience as I, and what's more, his report was that the compensator was not leaded, which was unusual for that particular sub-gun. He was also getting slightly better velocity.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? It's not a true plating, but rather a copper/polymer/graphite coating, and I have several hundred loaded for my pistol.

No real point to this post other than maybe throw something new out there!

    Thanks,

    Josh

Been doing it off and on, and experimenting with different bullet lubes for decades. Here is my version of black dry lube on 9mm bullets:

Playing with the binder type, application technique, along with the dry lube used adds up to a whole lot of variables to play with. One big caution is make sure the graphite used is just that; all graphite of a soft pure grade. It seems some bulk graphite powders are blended with clay dust or something else, and is very abrasive in my experience. Going to the extreme opposite of the color spectrum brings us to "Motor Mica", which looks like what Hornady dusts their dip lubed swaged bullets... Going to have to try Mica one of these days.

Am very curious, how you doing that? Information, recipes, links appreciated.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.
