Default What's the deal with 1911 availability?

What's the deal with airline peanuts?

Seriously though, whats going on with 1911 availability?

I have been in the market for an entry level 1911 in the $700 or so range. The SA loaded is out of stock with a 6+ month wait according to SA. Kimber custom II is the same.

I thought I found a Para GI45 ESP but it turned out to be a false alarm. I found a S&W TFP in stock that is a little above my budget but looks like it fits the bill.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? Is it just a huge delta between supply and demand or are there other factors at play?

the fact that it's the 100 year anniversary of the 1911 might have something to do with it. everybody want one now.

Have you tried Cabela's in Hamburg? I'm not sure how competitive their prices are, but the last time I was there, (maybe a month ago), they had lots of 1911's. Give them a call & see if they have anything in your price range.

I just picked up my forth 1911 I was on a waiting list came in to check where I was on the list and bingo one had came in and I was next. This was the ss Ruger 1911 I'll be writing a review and comparison to my 3 other 1911s in value, features and range accuracy.

Usually the gun shops I visit if they don't have any other 1911s they have plenty of Kimbers in stock. Its good to see Colt still make 1911s if nothing else.
Springfiled seems to be plentiful also.

I think it just depends on your area.

Around here every shop has at least 1-2 1911s in stock. I stopped at a shop in Hollidaysburg Saturday, and they had at least 10 in stock, from a SS Springfield TRP all the way to a Rock Island GI.

1911s are hot right now. Everybodys getting into the game because of the 100 year aniversary. I get them as often as I can. Springfield is by far the hardest to get for us. In our area if its over a grand they dont sell that well so we carry the Desert Eagle (which is a great pistol), The springfield loaded when I can get them, I have a 100 year aniversary colt and I just bought a bunch of the Remington R1s which haven't been available for a while. If your patient you can find what your looking for but keep your options open.

The LGS in my area seems to have a whole case of them.

They usually carry, Kimbers, Colts, Springers, Les Baers, Para Ordnance, some S&W's...

I don't know what they have now, but I am going there Saturday, I can report back on what they have.

I think it is the the area, and the price bracket I am in.

Most of the in stock 1911s I see are entry level in the $500 range. STD ing up from there to something with a beaver tail and better sights and you seem to hit what everyone else is looking for.

As I stated the local shops have no stock on my two top choices (the SA loaded and the Kimber custom II). I Will keep looking for either of these, but for now I went with a S&W TFP.

American classic 1911s have gotten pretty good reviews. I've held them before but haven't had the chance to shoot one yet. Rock Island in my opinion are a great peice for the money. They are also something you can build up to a nice custom 1911.

You're going to the wrong stores.
