Thumbs down Bad Time at Surplus City

Hello everyone, and thanks for reading in advance. I wanted to put the word the word out there on here of the bad expierence I had at surplus city here in the city for all of you that know it.
Withing the last 6 months I went to Surplus because I know their prices are fair, and the service is good. I also have a few of my friends who greatly frequent the shop and give it rave reviews. I have also seen many people on here saying they also love the shop.
I went in to trade in a used weapon and buy a new one that I know they had in stock. They gave me a fair trade for me weapon, though at the same time I didn't haggle over the price of the new one I had purchased. After I had bought the new weapon I asked for one of the guys to take a few mins to show me how to break it down to clean it.(at this point there were a few people in the shop looking around.) I was told they they don't have the time for that. I was really angered and insulted that after I had just spent good hard money there I couldn't even have a few mins of their time.
Right after this I went down to Classic Pistol which many of you also know. They were more then happy to show me how to tear it apart and allow me some range down to put some lead down range with my new weapon. I would go back to Surplus again, but I wanted everyone to know how things can be here on this site. If I receive the same poor customer service again I will never give them any more business and I will tell my friends to do the same. Wanted to give everyone else the FYI

Thanks everyone for posting, I really appreciate all the feedback. I should have known how to break it down first, but I'm more of a hands on learner and all I wanted was a quick demo...I only made the request because I thought it was a reasonable one. Next time I will ask to see that happen b4 I buy. Please keep the comments coming.

I think thats a legitimate complaint considering you bought a new gun. You should at least call and explain the meaning of customer service to them.

I can understand not knowing how but they should have said that not, "We don't have the time to show you".

When I purchased a new car, they didn't show me how to change the oil or change a flat but merely handed me a manual. If it was a new gun that you purchased, it should have had a manual with it.

Maybe they were embarrassed to admit their ignorance.

i've shopped at surplus city for years and i've seen them assist customers with breaking down guns to show them how to assemble/disassemble the gun. how many is a few? if there were other customers in the store at the time i don't think i'd get bent out of shape because they told you they didn't have time to instruct you on how to clean the weapon. if there was no one in the store at the time i can see having an issue but not with other customers in the store. did you speak with rob the owner before before posting a complaint on a public forum??? new guns come with owners manuals so it's your responsibility to read the manual to figure out how to disaasemble and clean the weapon and not the store's job to teach you.

Maybe they were really busy? No offense, but if you're buying a gun, you should know how to take it apart and put it back together before buying it. That's like buying a car before learning how to drive.

Hey! The first car I bought I couldn't drive it home because it was stick. But I went out that night and learnt how after my dad drove it home.

Yeah, but you didn't ask the dealer to give you driving lessons after you bought the car, did you?

Well I've bought 2 RV's over the years and both times there was a scheduled after the sale walk around with one of the technicians which lasted close to 45 min. in order to understand the operation of all the equipment.

Granted the profit margin is a little different and I'm not exactly comparing apples to apples but it doesn't sound like an "over the top" request to take 5 min. of your time to show a quick breakdown.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.
