    Default Worth bluing my 1911?

I have a 1911 Colt Combat Commander in stainless. Can it be blued and look as good as it came out of the factory? Who does it and how much does it cost?

You cant truly "blue" stainless. Bluing is a form of controlled oxidation, ...rusting. Since stainless will only rust under harsher conditions, it won't blue properly. Bluing is preformed on carbon steel.

The bluing that is performed on stainless usually turns to a black'ish finish. That is also dependent on the grade of stainless steel. Some stainless steels are relatively easier to "blue" than other stainless steels. Some are nearly impossible to blue/rust.

What you will get with a re"blued" stainless gun will not be like the factory true blued carbon steel version.

You have the superior finish why mess it up. There are other coating that you can use they are usually pretty expensive. I just bought another 1911 just because it was SS and had good features.

You can Ceracote it (much better than Duracoat, especially on stainless) and have it come out looking very good. And, you can remove the Ceracote, should you ever want to.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Looks like if I like a blue gun I should just buy a blue gun.
