    Default Cutting Down Forend/Forearm/Forestock, Help?

    Hi PAFOA,

I'm a newcomer to shotguns. I got a Pardner Pump, which as I understand it, is very similar to the Remington 870. I wanted to put a 6 shot side saddle on it, but the saddle blocks the Forend from coming all the way back when I rack it. I understand my options are to either cut down the forend, or, replace it with a different, shorter forend.

Money being tight, I'd like to cut it down and see if that works before buying a new forend. Do you guys have any tips, can I just go at it with a saw and then sand it to make it smooth? What's the recommended procedure? Google is only giving me results for cutting down the barrel.

Do I need to disassemble it before trying to cut it down, and if so, would the disassemble be the same as the Remington 870?

    Thanks for any help!
    JD

    Yes.

Just figure out how much the side saddle extends beyond the receiver, and cut about that much off of the rear of the forestock.

Here's a tip: cut a little extra off, so there's a gap between the forestock and the receiver when it's pulled to the rear. If you don't leave a gap, you can pinch your hand pretty badly when you pump the action.

great success! can now have 22 rounds on/in the gun if such a situation were to arise.
