Need ACRC info...

Hey all, I'm a recent transplant to Pittsburgh from suburban Philly and longtime lurker on the forum, and saw that Allegheny Country Rifle Club is the closest range to where I'm currently living (strip district), but noticed they did not have a website, and only found bits and pieces of info here on the forum.

Does anyone know if membership is still capped (saw this in a slightly dated post)?

Also, does anyone know who I can get in touch with to join?

The membership is still capped, and if you got on the wait list it would be at least one year before you got in.

You would need to be sponsored by a current member to get on the wait list.

They do have a website, but you need to be a member to access it.

Welcome to the 'Burgh! Eddyb is correct: membership is capped and you can expect a year + wait. If you want to take a tour and get on the list shoot me a PM. Also, ACRC's "gun bash" will be at Ross Community Center on 7/23. Would be a good way to mingle and meet members; tickets are still available.

Don't know about ACRC, but PMSC is not very far from anywhere in Pittsburgh and the ranges and rules really make for a great day. You should come to the Poofa shoot tomorrow morning and look around.

Thanks for the info everyone! PMSC does look and sound extremely nice, just a bit further than ACRC. I'll probably end up joining there, and getting on the wait list for ACRC.

I wouldn't bother with ACRC. My Mom's uncle is a life member there and we went with him once. The range itself was alright I guess but it's mostly a bunch of miserable old men. Their year-long waiting list is kind of insulting to me for that reason and there wasn't even anyone shooting when we went, it was dead except for all the people in the lounge. Huddling around the bar, getting drunk and giving me dirty looks. It's not like I was dressed in my ridiculous zombie-fighting MOLLE vest or anything, I had normal clothes on. I only had the pleasure of going there once but PMSC was ten times better than ACRC. Less restrictions, more places to shoot and bigger ranges for long shots.

Don't be insulted by the wait list. Because of the type of club it is, there is a membership cap. I personally like it when there is nobody there. I agree that PMSC has more ranges and less restrictions and would join in a heartbeat if I didn't have to deal with the Squirrel Hill tunnel monster. I don't want travel time to be a factor in my shooting.

I agree Eddyb, the travel time is what keeps me from joining PMSC, but it looks as if it may be my only option. Thanks for the responses all!
