Default How come no one ever told me

that shooting a rifle was this much fun????

I took my new AR out today for the first time. I had also brought my Springfiled TRP, XD and my Beretta Neos along to fill out the day.

Well, it turns out I didn't need to carry anything else to the range today, as I couldn't put my AR down! 500 rounds goes kinda quick though

The only downside to a rifle is cleaning it. It's a bigger pain than cleaning a handgun or shotgun... and after 500 rounds, it's a whole lot dirtier.

Now I need to stock up on ammo again as well as give my bank account a few weeks to recover

    Have you tried CMP yet?
I tried it, and now I am building an AR.

I am scared to try skeet before my wallet replenishes.........

That is good news. Another sucked into the AR world. And skeet.....that is why I don't have my dream shotty yet. It is more than the shotty. It becomes reloading, then better faster reloading, which means more shooting, more reloading, more shooting, more reloading. More time at the club. It all comes down to how DEEP you want to go. I came out of the hole smoking when I first got my AR, but have slowed because ammo is crazy expensive. I do spend money, but it is usually on more guns.

AR15jules is correct with a AR-15 it becomes reloading because of the lack and the expense of ammo. Then loading ammo faster. I am working on reloads for my AR-15.

CMP? I'm not familiar with the acronym.

I shoot sporting clays every weekend. The intial investment can be high (my 687 EELL is a gallery gun and was over $10k) and my 682E was $2.5k. You can get well over $20k for some of the Krieghoffs and other high end manufacturers.

After the guns are bought, the ammo can be had for reasonable money. I usually shoot 100 or 200 on a weekend and a case of 250 shells runs about $50. A round of 100 clays is $28.

AR's are a ball aint they?

As you said, the cost of ammo will be much more than the price of the rifle, so go ahead and buy a high quality rifle up front.

Just like sporting clays, you will spend more money on ammo and entry fees over a few years than the price of the gun. That 687 EELL is a sweet gun, a little fancy for me...but sweet just the same. I blow more money on sporting ammo than I have in my Browning XS guns.

Last I checked Wolf .223 was like $225 shipped. Crazy!!!...but ya gotta pay to play.

I can't even find the Wolf stuff in stock anywhere. I ended up with 500 rounds of Black Hills 55Gr FMJ for $110 and 60 rounds of Hornady TAP 60Gr for $66.\

Maybe I should learn how to reload...

500 rounds of Black Hills FMJ's for $110 is a good price if that is the out the door price.

Ammoman.com has Wolf for $249 shipped, but I'd rather shoot the Black Hills stuff.

This might be a bad suggestion, but back when I was pounding out alot of ammo from full auto weapons daily... I took 'em apart and took them in the shower with me. Put some shampoo all over, etc... Then dried 'em really well, and put light oil everywhere.
