    Default Wegmans Firearms Policy

So, I'm dabbling with OC'ing at the moment and as a result, I'm contacting various establishments I frequent regularly and asking them about there firearms policy.

    Anyhoo, I just got this back from Wegmans;

    Hi, Dan,

    We received your e-mail.

Wegmans prohibits the unlawful carry of any firearms on any Wegmans properties.

Any firearms possession must comply with all local, state, and federal laws.

Thanks for taking the time to contact Wegmans.

    Sincerely,

    Kim

I regularly carry (cc in the winter - its cold), and OC in the spring, summer, and fall at Wegmans in Allentown - Tilghman Street. Ive never had an issue there.

in the 2.5 years that Ive been OC'ing, Ive only had one negative encounter... and that was with a neighbor that didnt have the stones to directly address it, rather she asked someone else to speak with me. I personally "just carry" and dont worry about it.... even OC'd last night at the Lehigh Valley Airport (no issues there)

    Why ask?

It is up to the facility to have the necessary signs. If no sign, I assume no problem (prohibited places considered otherwise).

If there is a sign, I go to there competitor!

The Wegman's in my area is carry-friendly, according to my boyfriend. Most of the stores around here, like Giant, Price Chopper, Weis, and Gerrity's, are carry friendly, too, or they don't care.

If you have a permit it is'nt unlawful carry. It appears Wegmans has no problem as long as you're LTC is valid.

You don't need to have a LTCF to carry lawfully.

    It's also provocative!

The prevailing wisdom is that it unnecessarily brings attention to the law-abiding firearm carrier where no attention should be the norm....

The business establishment is now 'provoked' into dealing with an issue they may never have had an established policy regarding... and with the prevailing myth of police-provide-100%-safety bought into by far too many people, having to pre-emptively decide this issue will likely cause unnecessary negative policies to be implemented...

If you carry, know the law --- know that owners/managers of personal property may ask you to leave --- if asked, simply end your shopping and exit the establishment as asked....

After the fact, you may return unarmed to discuss their policy or send them a letter/email or make a phone call...

As a general policy, it is better to simply carry as if the business supports the citizen's desire to use a firearm for self-defense, and simply comply with their request/demand should they prefer to deny you that privilege on their private property...

If handled correctly, their need be no 'horrible confrontation' in responding to their request... yet it provides the possibility that no request to leave will be made at all...

Regardless, the email is a nice way to affirmatively say they support all lawful possession. Good on them. =)
