    Default Holster recommendation

Can anyone suggest a good IWB holster for a very old S&W chief 38 special?

If desantis makes a "cozy partner" for it,ts a great choice. A little stiff at first but the leather molds real nice. I carry an M&P9c and i forget its there. i carry at 4-oclock

It's not IWB, ibut Robert Mika makes a dandy pocket holster for small frame S&Ws. I've had one for a while and it's simple and works well.

His website shows an IWB holster but I don't have experience with it so I can't comment.

The Summer Special style holsters work well with a J frame. Galco sells a version for around $50. It's called the Summer Comfort.

The problem with carrying any revolver is the width. The cylinder, even the 5-shot cylinder of the J-frame, makes for a very thick area under your belt. You want to do what you can to mitigate that thickness.

If you use a holster, like a Summer Special, where the belt-loops are on the holster body, all you have done is add thickness - cylinder+belt-loops=big lump. But using something like a VM2 with its two belt loops off the holster, mounted on big wings, is kind of overkill and defeats the purpose of carrying such a nice compact (in all dimensions but width) gun.

For the above reasons, I would recommend an Andrew's Custom Leather, MacDaniel II holster, here...

    http://www.andrewsleather.com/traditional.htm

It uses a single belt-loop, adjustable for cant and mounted behind the trigger guard, so it is completely off the holster body. This gives you the smallest, thinnest possible IWB holster for a J-frame. The single belt-loop is fine for a gun the size of a J-frame. For larger guns I prefer a Sparks VM II.

Good luck in your holster quest.
