Re: 18 to take handgun to range?
18 to:
own
purchase from private party (via sheriff office transfer)
carry openly
unloaded car transport to/from range, hunting, gunsmith. etc.
21 to:
buy from FFL
obtain LTCF (needed to carry concealed, in vehicles and Phila) ref: § 6109
Most of this is found in PA Uniform Firearms Act.
http://www.legis.state.pa.us/WU01/LI...18/00.061..HTM
The 21 age to purchase is Fed law (PA law not being more restrictive)Last edited by Pa. Patriot; December 26th, 2007 at 11:24 PM.

Make sure it is cased, unloaded, and stored seperate from the ammo and you should be golden either way.

Re: 18 to take handgun to range?
Yeah, cause otherwise, they'll take your mom's car, too.

Re: 18 to take handgun to range?
you will learn pretty quickly around here that if the law can be misconstrued by LEO then it will be and most likely you will find a few cops out there willing to arrest you for following the law. Does that make them all bad? no, but there's always a few bad apples
The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose.

Depends on how informed the cop is. If he knows the law he'll probably let you go after he makes sure you understand the law. If the cop doesn't know the law you'll get arrested and your gun confiscated.
Look closely at this link and print out what applies to you and carry it with you when ever you transport that gun. http://www.legis.state.pa.us/WU01/LI...18/00.061..HTM

Re: 18 to take handgun to range?
You'll find (sadly) that more LEOs than you would expect are not that well-versed on the UFA. They'll say you can't do something before they say you can because either:
- They don't know and don't want to admit they don't know, so they err on the side of caution
- They know the UFA and don't agree with it, so they use their position to push an agenda
- They are repeating what they are being told by their supervisors (Chiefs or Sheriffs), and those supervisor are also uneducated on the UFA or pushing their own agenda in the name of "safety".
Unfortunately, because there are some LEOs that don't know or don't care about the law for one reason or another, there is a chance that you could be stopped/harassed/charged and be put through hell over nothing. But when you think about it, any one of us 21 or older could also be in that situation if the LEO is abusing his/her power. At the end of the day it would be a wrongful charge as the law states you have the right to transport firearms, as long as it's done so according to the law."Political Correctness is just tyranny with manners"
