Default 1ST time buyer SBR/NFA timeline..

OK so I decided maybe this would help some others get a idea of what will happen. Now I know each time will be differant, but this can maybe be used as a timeline of events.
The events I am talking about... Getting my SBR in my grubby little paws!!
I will make edits to this post as things change.

This is where it all started, a gun broker auction.
Firearm I choose to bid on (and luckly noone else did) was a MP5 clone.

    Bidding ended on 12-9-07
    http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=86712800

12-11-07 My dealer sent a copy of his FFL and SOT to seller.

12-13-07 I mailed out a copy of the auction And money order.
With this I also printed up 3 copys of the auction and a info sheet. On this info sheet I put the following info.
My name and address, home and cell numbers and e-mail address.
My FFL dealer name, address, phone numbers and fax. The contact name at my dealer and his hours of operation.
I also made 2 copys of the money orders.
Now I decided to keep a set of copys for my own records. I also made a copy for my FFL dealer and the seller got a complete copy as well.

Now some folks may feel this is overkill. But I figured it would be a safer and easier transaction this way. Basically it keeps everyone on the same page, all have the same info, and contact numbers.

    Now to sit and wait....

12-26-07 Decided to call seller today just to make sure everything was in order. They said the paperwork went to ATF today for approval to ship firearm to my FFL.
This gave me some comfort, knowing all the paperwork and payment got there. See Murphs law is my shadow, so I figured the money orders would get lost.

Time for more sitting and waiting.. Part of Murphy came to light today too. Guess I couldnt have picked a better holiday time to do this huh...
BUT on the lighter side. The seller said as soon as they get the ATF ok they will send the tracking number by e-mail..

    UPDATE!!!
1-10-08 Well got the tracking number today!!! So said delivery date Is Jan. 15TH. Woo hoo!! Well I guess the 15th Im gonna Have to take some gun porn....I will also start making my calls to the pike county sherriff. I am hoping to keep MY part moving along swiftly.. I plan on submitting my paperwork with a personal check to track it. Now my grubby little paws are gettin itchy...

    UPDATE!!!
1-16-08 Firearm arrived at my dealer today. Went down took some pics and picked up my application papers. I will call the sherriff today to see about a appointment to get his signature. Once this is all said and done it will be mailed out to NFA.. Now I just have to post some pics...

1-25-08 Went for my appointment with the sheriff. Real nice guy, said he has no problem signing the papers for SBR's or full auto's. But we didnt get a chance to discuss the suppressor bit. But I did leave his office feeling He is a good guy and very pro gun. He even remembered me from my daughters DARE graduation.

1-26-08 All forms went out in the mail today...Time to sit and wait....

    2-4-08 check cashed..Gettin closer

4-4-08---Well Im done, got the call at 9:30 AM, MY STAMP IS IN.. picked up the SBR today after work..So this complets my time line. Over all basically took just shy of 4 months. Stinks that is takes that long . I was starting to get to the point of why the heck did I get into this. But now that the new member is home and in the safe, I can enjoy it.

Well folks, Guess this will do till I make a decision on either a SBR AR, or thompson SBR....Time shall tell..

Don't forget once the form 3 from his dealer to your dealer is complete you still have do to the form 4 and wait that out! DOH! Doesn't the wait suck? I'm still waiting on 2 Form 4's for Suppressors to arive so I can fill them out and send them in! The suppressors have been paid in full for almost a month!

Good luck with your wait and let us know how it continues and what your timeline is!

    Cheers,
    Josh

Excellent! You can spend your time now searching for magazines at a good price (good luck), extra parts for repair and ammo! oh and a suppressor too!

on another note I got a call from my dealer today and my AAC Omni showed up today Form 4 will be going out shortly and I begin my wait too!

    Cheers,

    Snert..

Get factory HK curved mags. I got some NIW from Gordon Miller this past spring

Also not to rain on your parade but if you have FTE's get one each factory HK:

    extractor spring
    extractor
    ejector

Adding those parts elimanates 99% of all problems and allows 100% functioning with the cheaper HK straight mags.

Oh yeah and for your next accessory pick up a SWR Trident.

I so completely agree with that statement! I LOVE my SWR Trident9, sounds great and the fact that it can go on multiple hosts is just a bonus!

I think we should get our own "wait for new toys club" started. Last thursday I got my finger prints done ($25 for the first 2 and $10 each add.) Dam I glad they didn't charge me last time for 8 sets, 3 cans 1 MG. And of course the chief is on vacation so i have to wait for him to get back, but of course I won't be the first thing on his list of stuff to do. wait, wait, wait! but wait there's more! Now all I have to do is wait for these.....

At least it's not taking 8-10 months for approval anymore
my last one's were 28-35 days

I think the next SBR is going to be a AR. My local dealer is a colt dealer, he does alot with LE. Might see what he can do.

Hey Fullauto, what model AR is that in your pics??

Mt.Dew, With each batch of CA firearms comming out, they get better reviews from folks. SO I have my fingers crossed on that issue. I will pick those mentioned items up just to have incase. But hope to not have issues.
The reports I am seeing on AR15.com and HKpro.com seem to all say things have changed. But I have been noticing reports of Vector going down hill.

I was on gunbroker the other night and found a bushmaster SBR upper. I have a post ban bushmaster now, It was my buddys until he had a massive heart attack. His family gave me his firearms, they wanted nothing to do with them. SO they have sentimental value to me.

I would love to do the full auto thing, BUT being limited areas to shoot. and lets not forget the initial cost..I want firearms I can shoot and enjoy, not look at. If I had a bigger bank account I might reconsider that statement..

On the SWR trident, sherriff wont sign off on them.
