Default Thoughts On How to Permit Carry

I have a CCW permit for PA. I live in Allegheny County.

I usually carry concealed. I would rather people under estimate me than over estimate me. Much easier to get advantage of the situation that way. I probably look like a helpless old guy that a mugger would laugh at. Little do they know that I work out at the gym 7 days a week and can still bench 200lbs at age 56 I see a lot of 20 year olds that can not keep up with me, of course there are a lot that leave me in the dust.

    I have 2 main carry guns. My SP101 5 shot .357 and my Kel-Tec .380.

Because I am not a police officer and am no longer in the military, I feel comfortable with 5 shots in the Ruger and 7 in the Kel-Tec. At least, it is a good compromise with weight/convenience - IMHO.

In the summer I pocket carry my Kel-Tec and leave the ruger mostly in the glove compartment. In the winter, the Ruger fits nicely into any jacket pocket and the Kel-Tec becomes my B.U.G. mostly in my pants pocket.

I carry the Kel-Tec with one in the chamber - it has no safety and I feel very comfortable with carrying this way. I did splurge on a Galco leather pocket holster for it. $44.00 but worth every penny. I carry the Ruger in a cheapie Uncle Mike's nylon.

I tried belt carry on both guns and found it uncomfortable.

My choice of guns and carry method is not right - it is just what I have decided on. I am sure that some would feel under gunned with the Kel-Tec or think that the .357 has too much recoil for follow up shots.

What have you other folks worked out for yourselves? I know a lot feel naked without a 1911 and 2 extra clips. Some use a 2 shot derringer.

It would be interesting to hear what you have to say.

How I carry and what depends on the situation. on long car trips I carry in a shoulder rig with spare mags not on my person. once at my destination its either iwb or owb. it depends on a lot of things. I either carry my 1991A1 with maybe a spare mag or my XD 45 (13+1) without. I will point out I may have both with me but decide what to carry later. No I don't leave one in the car but leave the other in my temp. place of abode. If I'm only out for the day I don't bring both.

Effective carry is less about the gun/caliber and more about the method and skill of deployment/use. One thing professional training teaches you is that survival is a lot more than the gun.

I used to slip a J-frame in my pocket often until I started professional training.

The only time I do not use a quality holster is when I really can't or if I am just lazy, like perhaps a trip to the neighbor while wearing sweats. Etc. It's just not secure and is too clumsy/slow and inconsistent to retrieve(draw) when needed.

Your SP101 5 shot .357 will do just fine.

I have a Kel-Tec 380 also and use it as a BUG in a Desantus Nemesis holster.

Why does this irritate people so much. You know what the guy meant, get off of your high horse and post something relevant to his question. This response makes you look far more the jackass than someone who uses slightly incorrect nomenclature for a freeking feeding device.

Probably because a CCW is used for strictly concealed carry.

A LTCF does not stipulate the firearm has to be concealed.

The whole mag/clip thing is mostly good humor. But it does help to identify an item by it's correct name. My ex-wife used to call a Philips screwdriver a four-corner screwdriver, and a flat blade a two-corner. That used to drive me nuts.
