Snap on type holsters?
I'm getting serious about carrying now so I just ordered a belt from The Beltman and now I'm trying to decide on a holster.
What do you guys think of holsters that you can snap on, like this one?http://www.fist-inc.com/holsters/holster/2.htm
I'm not sure how often I'd have to take it off while carrying, but an easy way to take it off and put back on like this seems nice, but how reliable is something like this? I'm not sure I'd like a paddle holster and this seems like it may make it harder for it to be taken off by a "bad guy" or whatever.
I've also been looking at this one:http://www.highnoonholsters.com/Prod...bare_skin.html
I'm not sure about the laminate material though.
I kind of like this one also: http://www.safariland.com/product.aspx?pid=567

Re: Snap on type holsters?
Judging from the various gun boards, they're surprisingly popular. Personally, I don't see the appeal. By the time you loosen the belt and work the snaps, you could have put on a standard pancake type OWB, and had a closer fitting holster with much better retention properties.
FIST makes food stuff. In this vein, I would just get:

Re: Snap on type holsters?
Interesting, but I'd choose a pancake type holster before the snap on type.
I had a pancake type for a Taurus 669 revolver. Sold it with the gun. I'd like to find another because they are nice for easy removal if you're going into a place which denies carry rights.
BTW, the Beltman does make a fine belt, doesn't he?

def. not that OWB version unless it also has a beltloop in the back, way to easy for a potential gun grab if the only place it attached is those 2 snaps.
For the IWB I personally don't feel the need, but whatever works for you. I see nothing wrong with it

I have a beltman belt and love it. I carry a G27 in a cheap Galco IWB, and in a Blackhawk Serpa paddle for OWB.

Re: Snap on type holsters?
how much does the belt loop size matter?
if I had a 1.25" belt but had a holster made for a 1.5" belt, how is that going to affect it?

Re: Snap on type holsters?
Just tighten the belt a bit.
My belt is 1.25" and the slots on my Galco belt slide holster are 2". This isn't optimal and I'll eventually replace the Galco with a holster that has smaller slots. However, pulling the belt a bit tighter works fine. Since the Galco is a thumb strap retention type, the gun isn't held too snugly by the holster.
My other belt slide holster is a retention type (no strap). Large slots would be detrimental with this type holster (IMHO). This holster has 1.5" slots which work well with a thick 1.25" gun belt.
So, if the slots in the holster are bigger the the width of the belt, you'll get some slippage when drawing. In my limited experience, this would be more of a problem with a retention type holster then a holster with a strap.
