Default Dragonofpa for Delco Sheriff 2009

I am starting a campaign to raise money and support for my intention to run for sherriff of Delco in 2009. I am going to graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice very soon and I want to start a new career.

Any and all support/monies/feedback can be sent to me via PM or email.

    Let's get this started.

My small list (growning all the time)

    1. LTCF verbage on all documents (no more "gun permit", and that stupid sign hanging in the Sherriff's department is getting remade too)!

    2. No more unsolicited mailings to gun owners or LTCF holders.

2b. Updated firearms safety & law documents.

    3. Reduced turn time for LTCF applications.

    4. Reduced fees for LTCF plastic cards.

    5. Easier time getting CLEO signature on Class III.

    6. County Firearms safety courses and education.

    7. LTCF Lifetime validity unless revoked.

    8. Non-resident issuance support.

    9. Transfer of handguns and long guns offered for a nominal fee.

    List still growing.

well, before ppl send $$$ and support you maybe we'd like to know more about you. Experience, goals, what you stand for, why you are better than the next guy etc. Not that I doubt you'd be good but I really don't know you. Give us more info.

btw, how many threads do we need on this topic?

    Sorry for the cross post.

As for my background... I will soon have a B.S. in Criminal Justice and have an extensive background with using computers to make life better. I currently work a job within the City of Philadelphia and for years now have been in and out of high crime areas and seen the life people in those areas live. I believe I have a good handle on what makes people tick from my years of experience in my job and from my studies in Criminal Justice.

I am a republican and stand for smaller, less interference of the government in your life and am obviously pro-gun.

    10. Open Carry education for all CLEO and LEO.

Congratulations! I do have some comments to make that I hope you won't take as criticism, but rather to spur discussion or educate myself in areas I'm lacking:

    4. Reduced fees for LTCF plastic cards.
I don't know what the Delaware County Sheriff is currently charging for modernization, and perhaps that information will answer my concern. I did find this info which seems to make it pretty clear what charge the law mandates for this service.

Regarding fee increases provided for in Act 66 of 2005.
The additions to Section 6109 (h) of the Uniform Firearms Act provide for an additional temporary fee of $5.00 to be remitted by the Sheriff to the Firearms License to Carry Modernization Account.

This account is established by the Act as a special restricted receipt account within the General Fund of the State Treasury. Additionally, an additional fee of $1.00 is required to be paid by the license applicant to the Sheriff and remitted to the Firearms License Validation System Account. This account is also a special restricted receipt account with the General Fund of the State Treasury.
Oh, and who decides when the "temporary" fee is no longer necessary?

    7. LTCF Lifetime validity unless revoked.
§6109(f)(1) specifically dictates the term of the license. How does any Sheriff have the power to make it longer or shorter? While I think it a worthy change, I've been making alot of arguments lately that a Sheriff has no authority to enforce or implement his own opinion rather than the law. This applies to policies that would be sympathetic to gun owners as equally as it would to those who wish to make our lives more difficult.

You would need to come up with more than a one issue campaign.

If you run, you can't realistically stand up and say 'I'll make it easy to get a carry permit' and end your platform there.

You need to run with a strength on public saftey, realizing that the availibility of firearms aids in public safety, not hurt it.

But then you're going to run and you'll get questions--

When I was arrested, the cops didn't treat me nice.

Cops take too long to get here when we call.

    Why aren't there more patrols.

Also, it would help to know how many people actually vote for sherriff. Do 50 people vote, or do 10,000?

You'd have my vote if I was in DelCo

Don't forget you'll have to offer something to the people that care less about "gun rights" too to get their vote
