    Default Spend less than $399.99

If you had a budget cap of $399.99 and you wanted a new rifle, what would you get?

For purposes of this question, brand, caliber, type, and purpose is irrelevant.

Also, the choice would need to be useable out of the box. No major upgrades or much needed gun smith work can be done before you could use it for its intended purpose.

You get extra points for spending less than the budget.

Then, if you could go to $799.99, what would you buy?

My first choice might be a Hi Point 9mm with the red dot. Cheap and ugly, yes, but it is low on the price scale and has the Lifetime warranty.

For the higher budget, I think I'd take a VEPR 308. It's about $640.00 and I like the wood furniture.

I have had my eye on a .17 for some time now for range targets. and maybe later little critters.

something like that at half your budget with plenty left over for ammo and all of those unseen costs like patches and a good cleaning road.

I like Savage i have a .22 made by them and it is very nice.

If you do go with the Hi Point there is a nice little stock conversion that make it looks like a Storm for 69 bucks at Dunham's.

Yeah Id probably buy a Marlin 39? The 22 lever. We still have my grandfathers, the stock is a little loose, but it still shoots straight as an arrow.

CZ-452 and lots of 22 ammo for it.

AMEN! The best darn out of the box .22 under $900.

Under $800? I'd build another AR for $560 and a case of ammo.

The Marlin 336 in .30/30 can be had for less than $300. I love a good lever action rifle.
