Default Man may face charges for heroic actions in NYC

    Link to Story

An unidentified school safety officer may be charged with a crime because he was not licensed to carry a handgun.

The only reason that he had the handgun in his possession at all was that it was dropped by his friend, MTA Bridge and Tunnel officer Anthony Presley. Presley dropped it after being shot by thieves who were attempting to rob the men at a business in Bed-Stuy.

Yep, that's right. This guy watched his friend get shot, picked up his friend's Glock, returned fire at the thieves, and may be charged for carrying a gun without a license.

They also seem to think the cop who was shot is a hero, but the man who picked up the fallen cop's gun and returned fire, wounding two robbers and scaring off the rest is a scumbag.

NYC needs to EABOD and DIAF for this.

The article states that there were five, I repeat five perps at the robbery.
The School Safety Officer(Not Identified At This Time) Picked up the off
duty officers Glock, after he been shot by the perps in the shoulder trying
to stop the robbery in the auto shop store. The article did mention that
the school safety officer was a hero, apparently bagging(shooting & wounding) two of the five. The wolves(5 perps) are hunting sheep in packs.
They try to file charges on the school safety officer, alot of people will
come to his aid, and what DA is going to be that stupid. Of course
this is NYC, Mayor Bloomburg will blame the "Good Guys". I will bang my
head against the wall with you if they try to charge the guy.

I dunno guys, don't you see? The mere presence of a gun caused this guy to grab it and shoot at 5 kids that were just turning their lives around. They were good kids until this guy mowed them down in the prime of their lives...

And they were only 5 good kids, which is once more evidence that 33 round assault clips are total overkill. That he didn't have one of those sure saved 3 innocent lives. Or even more. Imagine what he would have done had he run out of kids before running out of bullets. He sure would have run amok through the streets killing EVERYONE!

NOBODY is stupid enough to try to charge this guy with anything. Just sensationalism by the newspaper.

I don't think the potential charge comes from being unlicensed; I read that as a detail of the story. I think the potential problem comes from this (emphasis added):

The unidentified school safety agent grabbed the Glock that Presley dropped when he was shot, sources said, and chased the five bandits, firing back after at least one robber shot at him.
Admittedly the article doesn't provide enough detail to say for sure, but in PA (and maybe NY), chasing after a bad guy after said bad guy disengages isn't a good idea.
