    Default Kel Tec P3AT - 2nd Generation

I have seen some discussion about these in the past so I hope you guys can help me out.

I have a friend that has his for sale. My major concern is carrying a gun that does not have a safety. I would like it for fishing trips, hiking and motorcycle trips where bulky just does not work.

Are there any alternatives out there, the same size gun, that has a safety? I know the Bersa is very well throught of but its is so close in size to my PT 111, I figure why bother-

I have a P32 (32) model. It has a very HEAVY (guess 8lb) trigger pull. I had a PT145 (gen 1) which also had a Heavy pull (which later cracked on the back rails, so I got rid of it back to the mfg.).

The P3AT is supposed to be a smidge bigger than the P32 and is on my list of things to get because of size.

Worst case don't carry C-N-Locked, or do and cover the trigger with a good mini-holster.

I have been carrying a P3AT for 3 years now.....every day. Any decent pocket holster (I use the Grandfather Oak) covers the trigger. It is pretty much the same as a revolver, so if you would be comfortable with that you should be fine with the P3AT. Just like all guns, finger off the trigger until ready for use. The trigger pulls on my P3AT and my P32 are very smooth, way better than a revolver and easier to control. They are far more accurate than you might suspect.

There is a hammer block and the gun will not fire if dropped. The only issue you might have is you may forget you have it.....it is that light and comfortable to carry.

Never ever had an AD with my P3AT and I have carried in either my back or front pocket for over two years. great little gun. My only issue is getting pocket lint in it sometimes... have to keep up on cleaning to keep the lint out of the hammer well.

What about not putting a round in the chamber?

What about not worrying about it not having a safety?

Seriously. I have a P32 and I can tell you that I trust the trigger on it more than I do on my Glock when it comes to the matter of something accidentally "bumping/pressing" the trigger.

The heavy trigger pull is the reason it doesn't have a safety.
The best safety though, is to keep anything and everything out of the trigger guard until you ready to fire.
I recommend an inexpensive nylon holster. Problem solved.

    Good luck with your decision!

All of these suggestions are great.

I know there are many, many fans of this gun out there and it does shoot well for something with such a short barrell. I guess I can carry it unchambered in no threat conditions, like when on the motorcycle.

It doesn't sound like there are any same size alternatives with a safety?

I think the unchambered option is your best if you are really concerned. I am new to carrying and carry w/o a round in the chamber. Do what is comfortable for you, and if you go w/o a round in the chamber, practice drawing and chambering.

I would have to say that carrying a gun without one in the pipe is useless.
I understand the concern, but if it is a major worry to carry a weapon without a conventional safety don't.

Carry it in a DeSantis Nemesis holster and you will be fine.
