Re: OC without one in the chamber
I'm not comfortable with those who think leaving the chamber empty somehow makes them or anyone else safer. It can lull them into a false belief that the gun won't fire unless and until they rack the slide leading them to be less careful.
In Australia, they passed mandatory helmet laws for adults riding bicycles. The result was an increase in bicycle injuries because people felt more safe wearing their helmets all the time and ended up taking more risks.

Re: OC without one in the chamber
Too true. And the less someone knows, the more prepared they think they are (becaue they don't know any better).
I knew a guy in HS who was the dumbest person I ever met. He honestly believed, and often stated, that he felt he was the smartest person around and smarter than anyone he ever met. The kid was seriously a complete imbecile. He was so dumb, he didn't realize how dumb he was.

Oh, GOD NO! Always treat ANY gun as loaded.
What do you think, which gun is more dangerous, loaded or not?
I'd say unloaded is more dangerous. In 99% of the AD/ND cases the person who caused the discharge says "I could swear it was unloaded"
Nah. It's not the best argument.
The very same argument was brought up by antis when Florida was about to go shall-issue. Antis tend to think, that people with guns will feel safer and thus drag themselves into the situations, when they might end up shooting someone. Didn't happen.
Same with the "second skin". Bullet proof vest (nowadays adopted by every PD in the country), that according to the opponents could give cops a false sense of protection. Also - never happenned.Je suis déplorable

I don't think it has been mentioned here yet... but what if your slide-racking hand is injured by the attacker and you're not able to rack it after drawing your firearm?
Having one in the chamber could save your life if you can just draw and shoot.

Re: OC without one in the chamber
Why carry unloaded??? Cocked, locked, and ready to rock. Anytime. As jsh said, eliminating any additional action is the best course of action. I understand, most of us probably never will actually have to draw in a real situation, but I'd like to have the peace of mind that if I do find myself in a worst case scenario that I'd be prepared.
