Back up CC gun?
I've been concealed carrying for 8 years now since I got my permit. My current CC pistol is a Sig Sauer P226 in .40 S&W. With my P226 I carry 2 additional mags. I am thinking about adding a back up gun, as most experts recommend having more than one option. I'm considering several options for a back up, any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Please keep suggestions limited to pistols chambered in the following calibers,
.357 Mag or Sig
.40 S&W
.45 ACP
Thank you.Last edited by Tech; March 30th, 2011 at 09:47 PM.

Kahr P40. Research it. You'll like it.

Re: Back up CC gun?
Why only those calibers? I feel like you're eliminating a ton of good choices by doing that, mostly in 9mm and .38 special. Also curious as to why you are lumping .357 magnum with .357 sig. They aren't exactly all that similar...
The moral of the story is a backup gun is usually something easy to carry, because you're already carrying a full size gun. There are people that carry two large guns. For the sake of conversation we'll keep these guns smaller, as they historically are.
As suggested above Kahrs are a great choice. I'd say go with a Mk40, or a PM40, but be aware, .40 S&W in a package that small can be a handful. A Kahr K40 Covert would also serve you well if you could find one. It has the subcompact grip size of the pm40 and MK40 with a 3.5 inch barrel. Here's mine with a Glock 27 for scale;
You really can't beat a J frame revolver, but shooting .357 out of one is generally unwise.
It creates quite a bit of muzzle flip, as well as flash and boom. Better usually to stick with .38 +p.Selling off a a sizeable Spyderco collection here
